Some days ago my PC stopped working. I switched it on but every time the OS loaded, a blue screen appeared telling me of a critical problem and I had to switch the PC off. I decided to format the HD and begin "from the beginning". If I try to install Windows XP, after formating the HD and when it is copying a lot of files (before beginning to install the OS itself) it says that "Windows couldn't copy the file qdvd.dll". I click OMIT and after that "Windows couldn't copy qedit.dll". I omit again and windows starts installing. Yet, when there are a couple of minutes left to finish installation, it stops.... and nothing happens.

On the other hand, if I try to install Windows 7 everything goes OK until a couple of minutes to finish installation. Then, the screen flickers and suddenly changes to a lower resolution and after that the screen remains black with a flickering "_" in the upper left corner.

I may imagine the problem is in the Graphic Card, but I can't tell exactly. HAs this happened to someone before?

the resouliton stuff only happend to me when my card was overheating ... but i have no clue about the rest .

I had this problem a while ago when trying to re-install win 7 64bit ultimate back onto my machine. I trolled the forums and found out that my GTX 295 grafix card needed to be installed using an older graphics driver. Then discovered that the memory on my graphics card was dying so I got a replacement and since then I've had no probs.

What Graphics card are you running andwhat version driver are you using?

Are you sure it's not the hard drive failing?

90% of the time, when your computer gives you a 'Blue screen of Death' (BSOD) on boot up, it's due to a corrupted registry. A lot of things can cause this to happen, but normally it's due to the computer suddenly loosing power during read/write, emphasis on WRITE, operations.

Two options that I use for my customers when this happens.....

Pull the H/D and run Chkdsk \F on it from another system. This should fix any physical errors on the drive by recovering and moving any data that can be found. Once you boot up, you'll get a msg saying what files are still missing from the damaged drive. Make a note of them and then remove the drive again. Copy files from a good working system over to the bad drive and try to reboot.

Second option is to do a low level format using a disk drive utility that works for your drive. I use Emergency Boot CD and Ultimate Boot CD for these utilities. Once the format is finished, this may take quite some time depending on the size, try and reinstall the O/S.

Always worth checking BSOD STOP codes before doing anything else.

Thanks, guys. I tried lots of things and nothing happened, so my Pc is now being cheked by "experts"... When I know the reasons why it failed I'll tell you about it, just in case any other person may have the same problem in the future :wink:
