Hey all,
1st of all i must stress out what an amazing work has been done for this game Confusedhock:

Sorry if im off topic, but next to the eng sound mod 0.93, MG sound mod, BFs Cockpit mod i would like to push up the graphic aswell.
I have seen a lot of vids on youtube and im just impressed by the graphic of some ppl. My AA and AF doesn't seem to make a good job.
I have IL2 1946, 4,9b and im running with AMD X2 6000+, 2GB Ram and 9800GT.
Any suggestions of MODs which are a must have?

Thanks in advantage!

Go to Nvidia control panel and tell it to overide program settings and run both AA and AF at 8x or higher and make sure you are running the game in open GL and perfect mode. Some of the user made maps are much better graphically so you should learn how to manually install maps in your mods folder. Upgrade to 4.09M and install Ultrapack 2.0 which contains HSFX. You will need to do a clean install in order to upgrade. Most important step Have Fun

Yeah, i thought so. I did already play witn my settings in the control panel.
I have read a lot about Ultrapack and HSFX, but i think one main problem i have is that i was stupid and got a digital download of Steam. In that order, i think a few Mods including Ultrapack and HSFX will not work.
I don't know, i mean im not a pro when it comes to modding and editing files etc, but i do know my way around a bit. As far as i have noticed is, that my MOD folder is being ignored atm. The Mods im using (mentiond at top), installed themselfs and work fine. If it wokrs with Steam then fine, if not i surely will get the game in CD form.
Another maybe stupid question...could it be that there are more than 1 Mod installer to use? And if so, which 1 is the better/newish 1?
Sorry to be such a pain.

There is a patch for digital downloads at both SAS and this site but I dont know if it will work with steam downloads maybe someone else can answer that question. Manual installs of maps and aircraft mods are not difficult but you need to be able to locate various files like the all.ini and planes and weapons ru files which are in the game folders. I do not know the file structure of the steam download but if the IL2 exe and the DLL,s are there you should be able to run Ultrapack or HSFX. Especially if you are already running the sound mods and such but you really need to be patched up to 409M from a stock install.

Well, after isntalling a few mods, IL2 will not load anymore, it jumps onto desktop after 65% loading. Im now reinstalling IL2 and will see which Mod cracked me up.
I checked a few things and the dll.s and IL2 exe are there, even over Steam. the problem started by updating to 4.09m and a BF cockpit mod. After all, i guess to save time and sweat i will get a stock version of IL2. I also checked the Steam forum concerning IL2 and it looks like that the Ultrapack and/or HFSX works even over a Steam installation.
Anyway, after all i think best is to install Ultrapack as most of mods are included and thanks to your advise earlier the AA and AF problem is solved. A lot better looking game after that
playing with control panel. Now, if i get ultrapack working aswell...yessss...ill be sorted out for now

4.09m is not compatible with your 0.93 Sound Mod. Your crash to desktop (actually at 60%) is due to a mismatch between your air.ini, buttons, and installed aircraft mods.

Hi,

Always keep a copy of a working IL-2 version. Keep copies of everything, including mods, which you feel must be kept.

I recommend HSFX 4.1, which is used by my squadron. You can get add-ons in the future such as HSFX 4.11 Using the JSGME Mods Enabler makes adding and managing mods quick and easy.

Here are a few of my favorite mods:

Intermittent gun smoke trail mod - looks real!

Sound mod packs

Pilot skin mod

Cockpit pictures, girlfriend etc

Crash smoke mod

SAS website has many fine aeroplane paint schemes - skins.

By the way, WATCH FOR COMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR MOD PACK!

McTim, what operating systen you using XP, Vista or 7 ? What version of IL2 are you getting from steam is it 409M or some earlier version. If it is 409M you should be able to find a suitable mod package and go from there. Ultrapack \HSFX uses the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler for activating some mods and the overall mods folder is turned off by default if my memory serves me well. Its also a good idea to visit the SAS site occasionally and keep your buttons file updated. Both UP and HSFX have compressed their mods to an SFS format so you get a bit quicker load times but thay are capable of running mods from both the mods folder and the JSGME executable that comes with the download.

Im using XP and Steam gives me the 4.08m version of IL2. My next step is to update to 4.09m and then mod from there.

And of cousre i always make my save files of files which i change, but it doesn't owrk for a Steam version which i had to experience on the hard way.

By the way, thanks very much for the help of all of you so far! Seems a great community here. My 1st day and i feel welcomed!

Cheers lads!

Take a look at the small program over at SAS called Game Booster for shutting down services that are not necessary for gaming and check your process affinity settings if you are running a dual core chip.

It will be included with UP 2.0. Try searching for JSGME (Jones Software Generic Mod Enabler)
