Westland Whirlwind?
#1

It's been a few months since we've heard anything about the Whirlwind. Anyone heard from RAF_Magpie or any of the other folks on the Whirlwind team? An interesting aircraft and MOD project.

No. Most people stopped asking I think, as inquiries were usually met with scorn from the developers.

It's not dead yet, but progress seems to have slowed to a crawl.

Wolf, my remark was based on the fact that most posts for that thread are pretty old, and the admission that the cockpit has proved particularly hard to finish. I would love to be pleasantly surprised. The external models for the Whirlwind look really first rate.

The aircraft is finished, as far as complete external model and corresponding programming are concerned. All she is waiting for is the finished cockpit, which, unlike the likes of a Spitfire, Mustang, or what have you, is actually much harder to get a complete data set for. Archie has provided us with everything that is in existence, so now its just a matter of fine crafting it to perfection.

As for giving updates? Well this is the extent that I am prepared to go into; we are playing our cards close to our chest for reasons I am not at liberty to disclose - let me put it this way, speculation and snide comments don't come close to knowing the truth of what is happening.

I do not frequent this forum at all, point of fact this is the first time I've been here in months - and as I've said in the past, any and all information will be released via the RAF site, and one other... but only when it is prudent to do so.

Nice to see you posting here though Magpie, many thanks for that info. Good to see you're still about.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Thanks for the update RAF_Magpie. Yours is a unique and interesting project and it'll really add something to IL2 when it's done.

If the cockpit is as good as the externals, and I sure it will be, this is going to be fantastic.
