IL2 joystick woes
#1

Hi,

I just spent my birthday money on IL-2 and a Thrustmaster t.flight HOTAS X.
I am experiencing some problems. I would appreciate any advice or hints you can offer.

My steps so far...

Installed IL-2. Check use joystick box YES.

Check IL-2 works. It does. Crashed flying with keyboard after 5 seconds flight Smile

Plugged in joystick. Automatically recognised by vista.

Control panel. Game controllers. Full range of motion/buttons tested to work.

Play IL-2. Joystick not recognised by IL-2. Hardware. Input. Joystsick pull-down menu completely greyed out/not selectable.

Google research. Download IL-2 joycontrol. Joycontrol recognises all axes except the throttle lever. Try to save but not easy to use.

Play IL-2. Still no recognition of joystick. Go to Thrustmaster website. Download latest driver.
Control panel. Game controllers. Testing screen looks different now, but again verifies that all joystick functions are recognised and working.

Google research. Update IL-2 4.08, 4.09. Still no joystick recognition.

Get annoyed. Try to fly jet in BF2. Bizarrely, throttle lever and all buttons work, but main X and Y axes of joystick not recognised by BF2.

I'm beginning to wish I never bought this daft joystick in the first place.

Any suggestions please?

Guy

In game setup make sure the box for J\S has been checked

Have you gone to Controls in IL-2, scrolled down to HOTAS section at bottom, and map your joystick axes to Power, Aileron, Elevator?

Thanks for your replies.

Joystick is checked in setup

HOTAS section of controls is set-up as default. I have tried to reconfigure the axes... but moving the joystick has no effect. It really seems like IL-2 is ignoring it.

Any more suggestions?

Success!

The old run as administrator trick!

New problem: rudder is permanently selected as full right, despite the joystick being centred and no keyboard buttons being pressed >.<

I hope IL-2 is worth it!

Hang in there Hopeful... IL-2 is truly worth it and more...The Modders have done a wonderful job at creating new things... from planes to cockpits to bomb skins..there are too many different Mods to list ...You will be spending the next few months tweaking things.... The better you become the more fine tuning you will do...As your skills progress so will your personal preferences...Just remember ....it takes time ..We all went through it as well...I have been flying this game since it's first release and I still suck..but I love it...Don't forget the AAA /IL-2 Community will always help..Just ask...S~ and good luck...fragg

I use a thrustmaster t.flight HOTAS X with IL2 and I am very satisfied with the relation quality price. You can read a lot of users of expensive joysticks complain about drivers

figured it out....

seems that the game applies a yaw to the plane when you take off in normal difficulty

think i'll be flying on easy for a while Big Grin

just finished my first mission, managed to land and was taxing to the parking spot when the last computer plane to land taxied into us at speed and killed us both seconds from a mission complete!!! unbelievable!!!

Strange i have the exact same joystick as you and Windows Vista and it worked flawlessly. I didnt have to do anything...lol very bizarre, and very fortunate on my part.
