Reinstalled the game from cd after a short break, patched to 4.08 and 4.09b1. Works well using either patch without mods enabled but I'm getting a ctd at 60% loading, with both patches, when using mods enabled.
This is all via the mod switcher tool.
Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks and apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I've looked without success on the site.
P.S. have tried multiple re-installations to fix this, still no joy!

4.09b1 is the wrong patch. Thats the beta version.

First step is to get your un-modded game to v4.09 Final.
Thats the one with the Team Diadalos logo on the startup screen.

Thanks, I have managed to get 4.09m up and running, is there a way to activate just a few mods without a 566MB mod pack download?

Yes, various ways, but most common seems to be SAS Mod Activator http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,1008.0.html

Having said that, setting up mods can be tricky the first time and involves a lot of file text editing.
Then if you make a simple typing mistake nothing will work.

The easiest way by far is to install the HSFX mod pack.
This gives you lots of new aircraft, new maps, new effects and other stuff
All the mods in it have been carefully checked for conflicts so it is a simple installation which for most people runs first time.
The large download is worth the wait. -- and thats coming from someone with 448Kbps download speed. :lol:

Being with 4,09m you have pass your issue; but crash at 60% will happen again most likely someday;
so here it is: it is cause by an ... . ini file (mostly air.ini) which has a line (entry) that points to a MOD that doesn't
exist, the mod is not install where it should be, or the name of the mod has been changed from what it should be.
The issue is resolve by installing proper mod, or installing the mod properly, or removing the excess line in the ... . ini.
Sometimes a mod will require the most recent buttons to work.

So always install your mods one by one and test if it works; if you install a lot mods and crash, you'll have a hard time to
find the cause.

( ... . ini files in packs are tailored for the content these packs and should work; it is what you keep or what you add
that will get you in trouble; so a clean install means a clean install, packs require: DO NOT KEEP anything from before... )

Remember that any MOD his treated as a priority by the system; it replaces original program, it replaces the very content
of the packs. So if a MOD you install (or one that's already there) screws up, then it ends there: CTD.

Thanks for your input guys, looks like HSFX is the way to go, I'll just have to be patient during the download!
