Late-war Bf 109 on the Eastern Front?
#1

Just wondering, now with the Bf 109's completely rebuilt, is there any campaign for the modded 109s (G-4, G-6"Mid", G-14early) set on the Eastern Front? There's a slew of FW-190 campaigns in the East, as well as a number of late-war Bf 109 campaigns on the Western Front, but it's a complete vacuum for the premier Axis fighter in the East during the closing year of the war...

Anyone considering making one? At least there enough proper maps, plus (even unmodded) there are enough Soviet planes for decent a varied opposition.

I would actually be interested in doing one, for any of these Bf109 marks: G-4, G-6"Mid", G-14early. What about skins? Are there any good skins about? (I'm a Bf109 Noob...)

Late war 109s were pretty much factory schemes, nothing overly exciting apart from a few field jobs.

Theres plenty of 109 skins out there Jg52 would be your best bet, they flew all variants of 109

Well, I did a quick search - there are several historical skins for each late mark (G-6 through to K-4) at Mission4Today, for Eastern Front based JGs - JG52, JG5, and various other Groupe from other JGs that served in the East. I can also make a skin, if you need it, though I a bit busy right now, so I can't promise a large pack (you can check my work here at AAA in the skins section). AviaSkins also have lots of stuff, though most of it is posted on their forums - certainly everything you'll need for the VVS RKKA.

Otherwise, as Phas3e said, you'd need a good "blank" skin for each type, but there are plenty of those. Big Grin

Thanks! Well, I've started to look into it, as I have long wanted to do a Luftwaffe East Front campaign Smile

A question from a Bf109 noob: in a campaign set on the Eastern Front during the summer of 1944, which mark would be the correct and most logical???

G-6 and G-6Late would be staple aircraft, the G-6AS was around but more in the reich defense role as it was a high alt variant.
The G-14 can come in around August and the K-4 October and the G-10 around the same time.

thats a good rough time line in my mind

From Anto's modded 109s - G-6Erla and G-14early, in my opinion. Maybe with the stock G-6Late for a single "in between" mission, to simulate the deteriorating performance of an aging fighter that's been warring for a while. Those are for the summer '44 time-line, of course.

Something interesting, a lot of 109s on the Eastern Front used the underwing MG151 pods - the Soviets have the habit of clearly distinguishing "three-" and "five-point" Messers when describing aerial combat.

Good luck, Poltava! Big Grin

Thanks for the suggestion: that was a clever idea!

Just one question: there seems to be no skin folder for the G6 Erla. And without it no other skin than the default one can be used. Which is a pity.

Is it possible to add one? What do you call it?
