Graphics frustration

I'm tearing my hair out over setting my graphics for my game after upgrading my PC and video card.

I'm trying to use nhancer/Powerstrip and Gama panel exe to do the job but its doing my head in.

Here's my rig , can someone who is knowledgable with this stuff PLEASE help me out?

try IL-2 Manager, you wont need to edit conf.ini and youre gonna be able to access the dgen campaign parameters too...

with your hardware you can set everything to maximum (except Water=4 which wont work on ati cards only 2 iirc)

Great and thanks

A great improvement over what I had.

Just a couple of questions-

What dll's will work best with my setup as I'm experiencing jaggies and my visibility distance is not the best?
I also have a strange anomally with my water . There is a sort of concentric circle (ring effect) disturbance and the water is also quite grainey to look at. This has only developed after I updated to my new graphics card?
Can I fine tune this program through my Nvidia control panel as the land detail is still quite grainy and not 100% crisp in texture ?

Thanks ,and look foward to any more help

Set your water to 1 or 2 for testing in the [OpenGL] section
Set Landgeom = 3
Set Visibility = 3

In Nhancer set AA to 4 and Ansio to 4. You should notice a HUGE improvement.
If you like, I can send you my conf.ini for good measure.

I'm currently running 2x GTX-295's in SLI, but only use 1 card for IL-2 as IL-2 has problems with SLI for some reason.

Can I still use Nhancer with Il2 Manager, I thought it was one or the other?

Hello, ceege1

Some of the challenges are computer system based and some are IL-2 founded. I have a relatively thorough guide to help everyone clearly see the connections of the computer to IL-2. Included is getting the best image possible from IL-2 or reducing the stutters if need be.

Here's the link:

Greetings to everyone,

im back to IL-2 since years after i saw that there r mods(hacks) available now.
So i got me these ultrapack thing wich includes hsfx and started enjoying the game in a whole new way.
Finally i got frustraded couse of stuttering expacially when the ground gets in view. It seems to make nearly no difference if i use mods or not. So i´d be thankfull for any help to find the best ballance between look and preformance
The link postet seems to be dead.

Hi there and Welcome,

you are right, sorry for the inconveniences. The Forum changed and the old links are all inoperative!

For hinds and help you may have a look here: Advanced tweaks for IL2 stutter/FPS problems!

Yes, Nhancer changes settings for the GPU card while the Manager changes the Conf.ini for the game.
You can setup your card to one of three options:

1. Let the game decide settings.
2. Compliment the game settings.
3. Override the game settings.

I could cry,... i´m so frustrated. Stuttering still makes il-2 unplayable for me.

i´ve spend sleepless nights over the trheat about benchmarking and others but still the game is unplayable. Well i managed to make it look perfect and have framerates that would be acceptable but its still stuttering.

for example

[window]
width=1600
height=1200
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=1
Use3Renders=0

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=2
TexMipFilter=2
TexCompress=2
TexFlags.UseDither=0
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=1
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=1
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=0
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=0
Specular=1
SpecularLight=0
DiffuseLight=0
DynamicalLights=0
MeshDetail=0
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=1
Forest=0
LandShading=0
LandDetails=0

LandGeom=0
TexLarge=0
TexLandQual=0
TexLandLarge=0

VideoSetupId=17
Water=0
Effects=0
ForceShaders1x=0

even that config which makes the game look like "LHX Chopper" back in the early 90 its stuttering with an avg of about 90 fps and a max of ca 180.

nhancer is installed and even that seem to make no difference.

I managed it once to have great image quality an no stutter. I just turned of 2. monitor output but after quitting the game and made some changes ( wich i didn´t noticed :-( ) stuttering was back. So i KNOW there is a way and something tells me its a stupidly simple failure but i´m unable to find it.

plz anyone help, i´ve spend far more than 36 hours only on fixing the problem and don´t know what to do anymore.

Fhat the Wuck..
I would maybe get a new graphic card if i was you.
Using win7 with an 5 years old graphic card would not work well as the win 7 uses the newer nvidia drivers and theese work bad with older cards.

I really dont understand the use of nhancer either.
I have a nvidia 8800 gt 1 gb memory card.
intel dual core 3.14 ghz.
4 gb of ram
and only using nvidias own settings in the drivers i get good fps almost on all maps i fly offline and online.
Using nhancer and other utillities on the other hand, set to the settings ive gotten here on the forums has done the opposite by making the game look like crap.
keep it simple stupid is something ive wonce heard..
Use your allready built in adjustments in the driverpanel and also set the config ini right and you have less programs to hasle with.
Also set Il2 to use core 2 in a dual core pc.

No need for a new graphics card I think..

I hope I can be of any help.
Having undergone the same insane stuttering problems for many months, I started tweaking and finally found a solution after many weeks of experimenting.
I just could'nt give up, knowing that my game had run better in the past. Wink
Since 2 weeks i'm running IL2 virtually stutter free (apart from some minor ones every now and then).
The lack of RAM is really more of an issue on my machine.. :roll:
I'm more then happy on how it performs atm, and in some cases it looks like the more you crank up the settings, the better it seems to run. (experienced this myself with the game T-34vsTiger Tongue )

My hardware:
Dell Vostro 1500 laptop/notebook.
Intel Centrino 2.0Ghz DualCore
1024mb RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GTS 512 mb video
WinXP Servicepack 2 32bits

I am not using Nhancer, but I do use Powerstrip as an extra to boost my color settings. This has no influence on my FPS.

I am using Ultrapack 2.0n with the 512mb_6DOFTir exe file

My conf.ini looks like this (only the relevant parts):
Code:
[window]
width=1024
height=768
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=0

Make note on the following things:
ProcessAffinityMask=2 (enables the use of my 2nd CPU core, giving a significant boost to my IL2 performance)
TexCompress=1
Hardwareshaders=1 (yes, that was previously 0 because my Il2 stuttered to hell with it!)
Water=0 (a bit flat, but water really eats your FPS)

Further on I made a profile in my Nvidia Control Panel specific for IL2FB.exe, with the following settings:
Anisotropic Filtering 2x
Triple Buffering ON
Force MipMaps TRILINEAIR
V-Sync ON
Expansionlimit (or something similar, i have'nt got the US/English word for it) and set it to OFF in case it's enabled.
This made a huge impact on my FPS for some reason.

Here 2 screens on how my Il2 looks right now, on Crimea 14:15h, Weatherconditions "Good"

[Image: 1706201012-08-45.jpg]
IL2 UP2.0n 512mb exe file
Mods: Modded Clouds (Light) and Default Maps Repainted.
FPS 62max and avg hovering between 25-50, hard to tell exactly.

Just wondering why you don't run IL-2 full screen?

And also, ProcessAffinityMask=2 does not make IL-2 run on both cores, if that's what you are aiming for. ProcessAffinityMask=2 will make it run on the second core only. If you want it to run on both cores, then you should set the mask =3

Is 3D water really that bad on fps? I have it on and I still get very good frame-rates, and my PC is just like Eexhaton's (except I have an ATI 4650 and 4gb RAM) and my Il-2 is fine with everything maxed out (except on maps with tons of trees like the intial 352nd CCM) Big Grin
