Convair B-36 Peacemaker?
#1

Has there been any talk about making, or would anyone be interested in a B-36 for IL2? I think it would be something cool to fly with the F-86 and other post war aircraft, and possibly a good long range bomber atomic bombs and such (even though it never dropped a bomb on an enemy). I don't know anything about making new aircraft, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to make a plane with both turbo jets and radials, but there were earlier variants with only the piston engines. I can't speak for the rest of the people on here, but I would be greatly appreciative to see one made for IL2.

welcome to AAA,

i'll answer calmly before someone else bites your head off.

This has actually been asked quite a number of times before, usually ends up starting the whole "this is WWII not blah blah blah" debate, but theoretically its possible, but the processes to make a plane in IL2 are complicated and it takes a good while to get things done. This might one day be seen in IL2, but i wouldn't count on it.

i've found if you click search at the top and type in whatever your thinking about and seeing if it's been posted before, rather than starting a whole new post. You'll save yourself from being "yelled'' at and you're more than likely going to find an answer.

ahh, yes. I did a quick "lazy" search, I'll spend more time on that part next time.

Yes it is. It had a 230ft wingspan IIRC.

Actually WhamO,

With the push to add A/C for Korea, I don't see why we couldn't have some of the more talented fellows here start work on this Plane. It was a late 40's - Mid 50's design that was replaced in 54-55 by the B52 and completely phased out by 1959.

Production history:

B-36B
Armed production variant with six 3,500 hp (2,600 kW) R-4360-41 engines, 73 built, later conversions to RB-36D and B-36D.

B-36C
Production version of the YB-36, completed as B-36Bs.

B-36D
Same as B-36B but fitted with four J47-GE-19 engines, two each in two underwing pods, 22 built and 64 conversions from B-36B.

B-36F
Same as B-36D but fitted with six 3,800 hp (2,800 kW) R-4360-53 engines and four J47-GE-19 engines, 34 built.

B-36H
Same as B-36F with improved cockpit and equipment changes, 83 built.

B-36J
High altitude variant with strengthened landing gear, increased fuel capacity, armament reduced to tail guns only and reduced crew, 33 built.

Though I fly through the valley of death, I will fear no evil.....
For I am the meanest SOB in the valley!

Maybe a stetched B-29 with the engines on the other way around. That could do good for a stop gap until somebody actually wants to make it.

Thats the first time i've seen a b36 along side a b29......look at the size of that thing!!........someones put the wings on the wrong way round.......should have gone to specsavers!!

We do have turbo-prop engines now in Il-2: the KJ-1 Chinese version of B-29,
have some pretty believable ones.

So I'm all for for a B-36 construct (oversize B-29 mod ?), because that would
be VERY, VERY, VERY nice goody addition to 1946. It would make Ficon(s) possible.... Smile

Notice the B-29 underside appear painted black !
I'm surprised that the B-36 has only three blades props on top photo. Strange.

( I also want that tractor in my farming items collection, LOL ).

I wonder how many airfields in Il2 are large enough for this thing to take off and land?

But won't that make it go backwards ?

B-36's main propulsion is actually six R-4360 'Wasp Major' radial engines, although it doesn't look like it as most of the engine is buried in the wing and the four rows make it almost as long as a v-type engine. One of the most powerful piston engines ever developed.

The top photo is the XB-36, the production models had four wheel lading gear. And having the propellers facing the rear prevented prop turbulence over the wings (which were 7 feet thick at the root). I did get the privilege to see one up close this past weekend while I was visiting the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton. My camera died, so I was not able to get any good shots of it.

Also, I read talk about the XF-85 Goblin, which was intended to be carried in the bomb bay of the B-36.

If someone is actually going to do this (I hope to god they do), I would say go with the B-36H, seems like the best one.

Well just make the FM similiar to the Do-335 so It can have pusher configuration.

It would be a nice plane indeed, and will be the first model of B-36 for airsims that could actually drop bombs and it was originally made to bomb Germany from USA but war was over so it is a WWII Airplane, and considering that the runways in IL-2 are not long enough, made a longer runway or increase power of the engines.
