ya i know, but UP2.01 came with a buttons in another file, not in STD, i didnt even have an STD file in the mods folder.

WHY IS IT CALLED STD????? doesnt anyone know what STD means? ill give you a hint, you can catch one in bed!

Hello man, I DL'd your campaign and played several missions so far. Nothing to say about campaign/missions structure, a really good job...

...but, nevertheless, I have to say that what I get playing it is, above all, frustration. Cry

I know I'm surely not the best jet pilot around, and that MIGs are supposed to be superior to F-86s, but they appear to be really TOO MUCH superior. They fly circles around me, climb vertically to the stratosphere, shoot me to pieces with their cannons, zoom away like rockets and play cat-and-mouse, while my Sabre struggles to gain some altitude, losing precious speed with the lightest maneuver (f***ing auto slats! :evil: ) and refusing to accelerate even in level flight, the engine constantly overheating. My wingmen (which, as AI, are supposed to manage engine at best) climb someway better than me, but can't do much more.

I thought this was due to low performing earlier Sabres, but since newer serie has appeared nothing has changed. Incredibly, even entering combat with altitude advantage makes almost no difference: I dive at full power on climbing MIGS, take the chance for a shot, then I (gently) zoom climb, to find that other MIGs have already out-climbed me!

So, every mission goes about the same way: meet MIGs, try to evade their attacks until they run out of ammo, then chase retreating formations and possibly score a few kills if fuel allows. Not very exciting.

Do you have any hints on how to make battles a little more balanced? TY.

Yes, it IS tough, even frustrating, to fight the MiG-15 in the F-86. :o This has of course nothing to do with the campaign, that I think is first rate (excellent work, Cracken!), but the aircraft. I have seen this anomaly discussed before. What is not factored in here? Interesting question.

I agree with you, the campaign quality is very high. Just wanted to whine a bit Smile

Serpiko! No, no, I think you have got a valid point! Something in the modelling of these two aircraft in IL-2 is making it very tough to repeat what happaned in history. Remember that in the Korea war the F-86 beat the MiG-15 with a loss ratio of one lost F-86 for every ten lost MiG's. Is this possible to repeat in the game?

I'm not much on being an ace pilot, I get my @ss chewed up by migs 9 outta 10 times, but if the flight models are correct, which according to the pro's they are, then 1. It's all in the pilot (most of the F-86 pilots were WW2 vets and had more experience handling the Sabre than what the mig pilots had.. 2. from what I have seen they say the best way to fight a mig is to not be way up in the stratosphere where the mig is dominate, sabre's can't turn with a mig in higher places, I have put all that I have read and seen to the test with this campaign, and managed to down a mig. Keep at it fellas, and good luck. BTW this campaign rocks, look foward to many more from ya, great storyline, great set-up 5 stars, 2 thumbs up!!!

I don't want to overstress my point, but if you try and put a AI F-86 with an Ace pilot against a AI MiG-15 with a Rookie pilot, the MiG will almost always win. And fast. I'm afraid that something IS wrong with the FM of the MiG-15. Especially the rate of climb is just too much. There has been discussion at the SAS site about toning it down.

Despite all, i think you can't trust 100% AI as effective way to compare planes, expecially ones not included in the original game.
I mean, AI knows every plane statistics and adopts the supposed tactic according to this, generally preferring "energy fights". But AI logic has been programmed and optimized for a game in which jets are few, they all are about the same in performances and they all outperform prop planes.
Therefore, if AI knows its plane can reach a high speed (high according to stock IL2 standards), it "logically" chooses what it knows as "jet tactics". But to make this work, the plane is expected to actually be superior to the enemy. Being both F-86 and MIG-15 modded planes, i'm not sure AI is smart enough to realize that the Sabre, as good as it is, can't face the MIG using "normal" jet tactics.

Nevertheless, I DO believe the MIG-15 is a little "uber", too:

I can see what you mean, maybe if the FM's were modeled off the same for each, it may make a huge difference, but with that in mind, and the fact I know nothing of how to model a craft what so ever, I think the creators have the FM's pretty much the way they should be historically. Yes it is a pain to do battle with a mig, it's a whole different ball game than prop tactics, gone are the days of getting an eye on your enemy, and planning a deflection shot, with a mig, you really have to have your head on a swivel, and for God sake, get lower, the mig will eat you alive way up there, bring em down to 10-15,000 where the air ain't as thin, constantly move and juke, no straight flight, keep your wingman close!! After about what seems like an eternity, you WILL find your self on his tail, but, like Ole Hickory, wait till they are close, in other words, work your way up to within effective range and give em a squirt, then BLAMO!!! You have shot down a mig!! Now everything I just told you, use it in game and you will see, it can be done, you just have to be willing to work for it......

Chaps, you are perfectly right about F-86's and Mig-15's flight models. I have made several complaints to people responsible for buttons, but they did not care to listen to me much... It is true that the current model of Sabre is very inferior... It is like I-16 against Bf-109K... I wanted to make more Sabre campaigns, but am not going to do so unless they fix the FMs... The only chnace for Sabres is to bag down landing and taking off Migs... Big dissapointment, anyway'!

Hey,

Not historicaly accurate, but I've noticed that the F-86J (the one from the F-86&AIM-9B thread) does MUCH better against the Mig-15/17.

I think the the creator said it has a more powerful engine, and I've deffinately noticed.

Just saying...

edit: Ok scratch that, it fares a tad bit better lol. I never really noticed how much of a climb-monster that mig is.

Oh, no. Not the guided missiles... I admire the old aces (my favourite are Voss, Gabby, Bader...) because it was them who shot down their foes, not missiles... Cry

Well of course, I wasn't talking about using the missles (lmao), just the relative performance of the F-86J; it slightly out-performs PaterD's F-86s.
