A & A Paintworks PTO Pack P38 WIPs
#1

A couple of weeks ago, we started revising the P38 template made by FBS. It's gone through some growing pains, but the template is comfortable to use now. I decided to have a hand at some famous rides, although I've omitted some things that existed on the real life aircraft. Some things are f-ugly when added to the skins...mostly tail serial #s and marks on the booms. So long as the markings are symetrical, they look fine...like the number 8, or the letter M...otherwise I've tossed them in favor of a better looking skin vs. historical accuracy. Have a looksie:

...and we're into the bong making bussiness now...Richard Bong, that is. All three of these rides were his:

More skins to come...stay tuned

Comments are always welcome!

Hi Grant!

Unfortunately, FBS never finished the template...he shared a copy of the WIP verison with me about 2 years ago. I had hoped that he would finish it up and release it at some point...more out of my own laziness than anything else  About a year ago, I asked him if he'd gotten any closer to finalising it and he basically said he'd lost all motivation to work on it...essentially he said to "go ahead and finish it up". I'll drop him an e-mail and see if minds the template getting uploaded, but for now I have to honor his request not to redistribute it.

I'll let you know when I hear back from him.

Cheers,

KC

Hi, Casey

I feel that it's okay to make skins that are "adjusted" to look better than they would if they were strictly historical-that's perfectly fine. It also is good of you to let people know that-good job.

The skins are wonderful! They are very combat immersive. Smile

Cheers guys!

Glad you like the way they look so far, although I'm not all that happy with the nose art on "Down Beat"...need to fix it up some more. The more I look at that screen shot, the less I like it...it's not as sharp as "Marge".

@ Fireskull....K-zoo, eh? Go WMU Broncos! Although, growing up near Ann Arbor, the Wolverines will always be my guys.

Cheers,

KC

I like the "Down Beat" one. Those unique ones are extra special to me. I think it's great, too, that you see ways to improve and want to make it better.

Many people, as we know, make screenshots and record missions. When I see skins in my missions that look like real paint schemes, just like WW2 photographs and newsreels, it's as close to a fantasy come true as we'll get.

Go Wolverines! ... much respect for U. of Michigan.

Thanks again for the hard work and attention to detail!

Thanks Kris!

Been working on "other things" the last couple of days, so the 38s are in a holding pattern for right now. I have a couple more to finish up and RDDR has his A6Ms just about locked up now. Once Rock gets back form the Legends show in Duxford (he was all geeked about the flying 262 replica being there), it should only be another week...maybe more, maybe less...before we're ready to release the whole deal to the public. Most of the Lightning skins are for the 49th...with a few interesting others (like Bong's Down Beat). Hopefully, Rock will want to include his version of '23 Skidoo' into the pack as well, he did an amazing job on the nose art

Be patient with us everybody...we got some fun stuff to share with you all really soon.

Cheers,

KC
