ok so i thought that IL-2 1946 didn't sound right... i looked up just to make sure how long the war lasted and it ended 1945, what's up with that?

If memory serves it was called 1946 because of the additional planes that were not produced until after the war was over or that weren't produced at all (Prototypes).
Kind of like "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe".

1946 is correct. Although hostilities ceased in 1945, president Truman did not announce the end of World War Two until the following year.

In that case, you have to take the view that the twentieth century was afflicted by a much more pervasive War of Ideology that began hostilities in 1914 with a few ceasefires along the way. I do.

But that doesn't allow for the British. We still think the war is going on. Big Grin
