Hsfx or UltraPack?
#1

Hello there,

When AAA was down, I was kind of sad. But I discovered just a few weeks ago via SAS that AAA was up again as AAS and i'm still happy about that.
My computer is, just like AAS, kinda new too, because it's completley cleaned off all data. And il2 was gone too...

Now all my most important programs are re-installed, such as virus protection, Photoshop and... il2.
I lost almost all my mods and want to put them back in il2. Earlier I got only UI1.1 but now I want to be fully updated so...

What do I need to download? HSFX or UltraPack?
Thanks, VinVin

Hello, VinVin

It's nice to see that you found our website.

Though you are not new to IL-2, you can find basic information and links for UP and HSFX mod pack building and so forth in my...

Very nearly all the Unified Installer content of the UI 1.1, UI 1.2, and beta UI 1.2.5 was rolled into the HSFX 4.1, so you will be amazed at the progess on top of that. With it is included content of SAS, UP, and some others.

I'm sure that you'll have lots of fun with the new mods.

I prefer Ultrapack, as you can enable just HSFX mods with one click from the JSGME.

I prefer HSFX, in that it has the Lt. wolf's orginal P-51 flight modles for the new Mustangs that preform better than the 'edited' UltarPack versions..

Also if your a P-47 lover like me and your PC and video card are a little dated..

Than you should get HSFX over UltraPack..

In that UltraPack replaced the stock P-47 cocpits with the highly detailed Freddie's cockpits..

Which are beautful but can cuase a big fps hit on your system!

In UP you can select HSFX and have the HSFX FM's. Also, I didn't have Freddies P-47 cockpits in my version of UP 2.01...well, I installed the mod myself so I can't really check now Tongue LOL Big Grin

As per Hades post over on the UltraPack site, UP no longer supports HSFX. It was included back in 1.8, (I believe), and 2.0 but was dropped after that.

Actully..

Not 100% sure that is still the case?

As Jinxx pointed out they stopped supporting that awhile back..

But I think that was wrt having both sets of FMs in the UP install?

Which they admited was too hard for thier personal to keep track of all the differnt FMs..

Reasoning I allways found rather odd..

In light of all the different FMs added via mods..

How does 3 or 4 more become too much for thier personal to handle?

Well it was there in 2.00.. Maybe they got smart and removed it in 2.01? In that it did cause alot of people trouble..

Which is one of the reasons I like HSFX over UP..

HSFX gives you the 'basic' set of mods (that were aval at that time) that they as a group felt most would need.. Anything beyond that basic set was left to the user to 'add' in.

So if you like Freddies cockpits, and you had a PC and vid card that could handle them, than you can add them to HSFX..

Where as they are added in for you in UP with no real way to un-add (remove) them easly..

By easy I mean it is not a folder in the MODS folder that you can comment out (--) or a mod in the JSGME folder that you can turn off.. It is part of the UP core

My version , UP 2.1 has HSFX as a stand alone when I downloaded it. Have you got a link to where hades said they don't support HSFX anymore??
Yes, my 2.01 has HSFX too.

I think that was wrt having both sets of FMs in the UP install?

Where they would add a symbol like '@' to the menu name of the P51 (i.e. @P-51D-20) to designate the HSFX version and a different symbol for the UP version so people could pick which one they wanted to use..

I am pretty sure is the 'support' they dropped that Jinnx was talking about..

I recall seeing the thread over at UP forums where they admitted doing that was too hard for their personal to keep track of the different FMs..

Reasoning I always found rather odd..

When you consider the fact that their or dozens of new slot aircraft with slightly different FMs..

How does 3 or 4 more different slot variations P51 suddenly become too much for their personal?

Just does not ring true and/or pass the smell test IMHO

But the fact remains that UP 'chooses' for you which mods your going to use where as HSFX leaves it to the user to 'choose' which mods they want to add beyond the 'basic' set of mods..

That and months of testing was done by the HSFX personal to ensure the compatibility of the 'basic' set of mods, which resulted in a very stable release..

Where as UP took more of the kitchen sink approach and included just about every available mod and stuck it in there, and all done in a very short amount of time (a week or so post the the release of HSFX 4.0) which left very little time for compatibility and stability testing..

LOL perhaps you should do some more analising of UP before suggesting it has stability problems... as i understand UP was developed with the help of the people from HFSX and the guys from SAS... it has gone through two major upgrades now to 2.1 with built in auto updater and fault checker.

With your demand for attention to detail i would have thought you would research things a bit before making wide ranging and blatant claims

Dakpilot,

I agree with you in this sense:

It is fair to say that all mod packs have gliches, especially when first released. They all go through evolution and get better with time.

On the other hand, people like ACE-OF-ACES have added some pressure to correct things, even if he sometimes has his focus on past issues.
