[Discussion] IL-2 in a few years

Hi,

How will IL-2 modding be a little down the road, say a couple years?

I think with CK coming out -[ I know two weeks LOL] things will
still be busy.
A lot will have to do with CK I think.
You will always have folks needing help and wanting more addons.
So all in all about the same as NOW- Check back in 2 weeks Smile

I think Oleg got a big, clever and long-sighted plan! ........ "To conquer the World!" :Smile)

No seriously, I think as SOW have to grow and prosper, IL2 will still have it's community for quite a while.
I'm sure SOW will offer some amazing possibilities and all you fantastic Artists will discover that - and then IL2 will past away....in a couple of years... 8)

Jambo

Yeh I agree with Jambo but then we will have SOW Canvas Knights. Smile

Rather than a new game, think of SOW as an Upgrade to IL-2 and it's capabilities.

Personally, IL2 will remain on my computer for many years to come. Look at it this way, despite SoW will be better overall, graphic wise and maybe also FM wise, it will take many years before the necessary addons will be released (pacific, other European era's). How many years will it take before you'll have to put your corsair back on the deck after a long mission. How many years will it take before you will cruise the skies in your Mustang?
Look at it this way, I bought and really enjoy Rise of Flight, witch is graphic and FM wise the better sim compared to IL2, still I fly IL2 serveral times a week.
No mather how I look forward to SoW, I wanna fly a mission with my P40 now but even if SoW would be out, I have to switch on IL2 for that.

Il-2 in a few years? Who cares, 2012 the world will blow up, haven't you heard?!

Just kidding. I guess SOW won't be on the shelves before X-Mas sales, 2012.
Until then, I think we'll have 4.10m, UP 3.0 beta or HSFX 5.0 in use.
Yes, I agree, someone will have done a soundbarrier mod, perhaps a mod for guided missiles
(using in-game padlock functionality ?!) and we will surely have more and more helo's.
Il-2 will be interesting enough to stick to the next couple of years. Big Grin

As for SOW and the aforementioned addons, I guess it won't take as long as with Sturmovik (until ACE/PF),
because it has already been rumored, payed addons would be an option. Maybe Maddox Games will issue
licences and some of the commercial, third-party FS developers, like "Just Flight" will jump on the bandwagon.
Then, addons like a F4U or a P-51 will be a matter of months, not years. A whole new market segment could be
opened up, ever increasing, constantly developing. Just like it did with M$ FS over the years.
But only if SOW can keep up to what was promised to us...

All right, nice to know. I didn't follow that development tbh, because in our squad we use stock UP. Thanks! Smile

Hell, we're going to have much more than that! Big Grin Remember- the Oceanic Wings forum modders are almost finished with their projects, and so are the SAS modders with the Hunter, MiG-21, and so forth. I expect the IL-2 modding community to be much larger that it was now in two years. Smile

I think Il-2 will expand. Soon we can do a pretty nice Six Day- and Vietnam-War. There will come more helos, and CK will come out... hopefully. But I think the realease of CK will be a question of years. I think Il-2 will enter terrains we didnt even know of for know. I think the early WW2 will take some special role also... because SCW, Poland or whatever are just to interesting to leave them uncomplete. All in all this game will develope I hope.

I'm with you on the early war days and the days of the BIplanes.
I wish more would work with them because I find them a bunch of fun
to fly.
