Complete newbie wanting to install one or two mods alone
#1

Hi there,

Newbie alert! Big Grin

I am a complete newbie to the whole IL-2 modding scene. I have '46 4.09m and have been flying the Sim in one form or another for a few years now but have never modded it.

Basically, I have never been 100 per cent satisfied with the stock IL-2 sounds, and I am after some more authentic distinct sounds. Specifically the 109 DB600 sounds and the Merlin sounds which I have seen on this site in standalone zip files. How do I go about activating these correctly?

For now I'm not too bothered about ANY other mods, although I would be interested to try out a Spitfire Mk.1 and 109E-3 if there are any out there (not if they HAVE to be installed alongside other mods to work); as well as minor mods which make subtle changes to some aircraft i.e opening canopies, new cockpits etc for the 109 for example.

Many thanks in anticipation,
A naive newbie  mikejr

Hi!

At the moment "we" have SAS mod activator for small and custom installs, it should fit your needs really well.
But one of the cons is that only the effects will work online.

If you have enough HDD space I'd recommend you to get UltraPack 2.01 or HSFX 4.1 which are big mod packs (about 4Gb), stuffed with all the mods you need.

All three of those allow you to install mods easily.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes, I did see that and thought it might work. Is it easy to install mods using this or is there a bit of talent required? And would I be able to install those sounds using this? And what about one or two aircraft on their own?

The reason I dont want those packs (for now) is for two reasons - and no offence to anyone intended:
1. I don't have the hard-drive space (or decent PC performance probably) and
2. I don't want the game crammed with addons (of varying quality) I may not want or need
... hence my desire to add only what I want to use.

Forgive my ignorance! Smile

What I think you need is all at SaS.
This is their address. Look the place over.
They have planes - sounds well lots of stuff.

Hello, Mike and welcome to the huge IL-2 modding scene. Smile

I have a newbie guide that includes exactly your questions. In it, look for the SAS custom install link, which is very clear to find. I recommend considering a mod pack, too, but custom install has the advantage of individual pick-and-choose.

Thanks a bunch guys. SAS looks pretty good. Will their activator work with these too:
http://allaircraftsimulations.com/DB_605_AAS.zip
and
http://allaircraftsimulations.com/Db_600_Sounds_AAS.zip ?

And I notice the Merlin with these links is only the prs files. Where can I find a full Merlin pack?

Cheers,
mikejr

The 605 and the 600 should work.

A complete Merlin pack is an unknown question to me. I assume that all the Merlin is covered in the major mod packs, but a separate install is not known by me.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Ahh, looks interesting. Thanks.

Can I ask questions about the SAS activator here or just leave it over there? I cant get it installed as it crashes IL-2 at 60% load. Sad

Hi,

We have a forum for SAS (Special Aircraft Service). I would post there and at SAS about the activator if I were you.
