SOW update 2010-9-24

'Ok, today I would like to say some important.

If you all remember, Il-2 was a sim that was setting some new standards in industry. Not all understand it in the beginning. However all things that we have loaded into the engine and even we haven’t used in the beginning – most of them later was working. Some technologies were copied by other deelopers (even not simers), some – still are unique.

And what I would like to say: BoB with its first generation will have also many things that probably will be working later in time step by step. But anyway with the first release it will also set some new standards in sim industry for WWII flight sims. Be sure.

We are doing a series from the beginning for a long life on the market, looking back for our expereince in the past, learning good and bad things of Il-2 series. So now we’ve put a lot of things that will come in add-ons and new separate titles (for wich we will give ability to install in the first one, say like was with Pacific Fighters, but with more features). Already now there is a process of development for one of the several new sims (with such a feature to merge them).
If everything will be Ok with BoB on the market, then you all will see more and more coming nice titles and add-ons (both free and payware).

Not all things that I’ve personally designed in the past will go in the release of BoB. But you all probably even don’t know what was planned and partially already developed.
I dislike to open even partially this info now, simply wait. I don’t think you will be dissapointed

X-day release: This now will depending of publisher and our fast woks over the bugs.
Bugs are present. The product is probably the most serious in industry in programming of features, internals etc.
So I can’t tell exact date right now. But we are close, very close in our works of final release version. We need to polish all the coming in final release features. I personally wouldn’t release the product that have serious bugs that was known. It was our principle in the past, it is now.'

I think you're all missing the underlying message here.

From what Oleg is saying, it looks like we will see SoW soon, but it will be without a LOT of the features that were promised and may contain some serious bugs.
It looks as if he's being pressured to release the project before he thinks it's ready which is exactly what we've been theorizing. That if the game was release at all this year, it would be a forced issue before it was ready and will not contain a whole heck of a lot of flyable planes.

You are being very negative about what Oleg has been saying. Here he explains in more detail about what he meant by bugs.
Oleg Wrote:At first we eleiminate interface bugs.
Then 3D engine bugs (say not so nice effect, not so nice border of the river, etc)
We check each aircraft for each parameter... for the damage... Say if you missed the wing... then the gun that was there shouldn' continue to shot
Something like this.

Also... we did a lot of different objects... We still place some buildings and other ground objects on the ground... manually that to get good looking picture without crossing each other objects....

Such bugs that are visible for the first or second look of user should be eliminated at first.
Other internal bugs, if is, could be even found later... As more complex product - more complex to find the bug.

1C has own test department. And they begun to "damage" our product for this purpose...
So we eliminate what was known ourselves and what discovering test department.

Maybe I tell too much in comparison to anybody else. But I always fair with users. This is my principle of life.

I think that is self explainatory, but you seem to have missed reading this when you were quoting Oleg.

Also worth mentioning, Oleg's team has been busy moving to a larger office and upgrading equipment over the last week, so it does not sound like he is running out of money.

As far as what Oleg means by "Not all things that I’ve personally designed in the past will go in the release of BoB", this sounds like he is talking about the controllable vehicles and similar features which have been built into the SoW engine but which where never planned for the initial release.

You missed my point completely.

It's looking as if SoW will be a forced release, (forced by the publisher not Oleg), and will not be up to Oleg's usual standards.

This situation is very similar to what happened to Battlecruiser 3000. The first version of that game was so full of bugs because it was a forced release that when a proper version was released about 6mos later, no one would touch it and the game faded into obscurity.

I'm just hoping that after all this time, Oleg isn't forced to release something that isn't ready because of a publisher pulling out.

Oleg is still arranging the publisher, and has said he won't announce who it is until its finalised. As such, I doubt the publisher is in a position to force Oleg to do anything.

Oleg won't release a game with bugs. He has said as much. Whether this is true is anyone's guess, but I don't think the game will be like the first release of BoB2.
having said that, it could be in the sense that it'll probably need a mega PC to run.

From the amount of detail shown, it indeed looks that way. Hope there's a chance for guys with average PCs.
But what's average, with so many individual performance differences.
Whatever its requirements will ask from the fans, the screens looks simply stunning. I haven't seen any similar amount of detail anywhere else yet. Another reason to give my rig a little more RAM (as if that would make a real difference hehe   ).
