Good day to everyone,

A program that I want to install does not like the remnants of an earlier version.

Do you know of a program that sweeps the fragments and traces? How about one that is able to take the name of the old program off the Program Files list, even if the original folder has been deleted. I have a couple programs like that, too.

Please only recommend a freeware Force Uninstaller from a reputable and trusted website.

Phew... I'd recommend "Absolute Uninstaller", but AFAIK that only takes care of listed programs in Windows, or newly installed progs.

Free version has registry cleaner which should clear out unused keys for uninstalled programs. PRO takes "deep scan" on registry, though I've not seen that great a difference in terms of general maintenance between the PRO version on my main rig and free version on other.

IObit's software is shareware, not freeware and does a mediocre job at best.

Use CCleaner. It will do all of what you are asking and then some.
Did I mention that it's COMPLETELY FREE!!!!!

As we all know it does not make perfect deletion, just 'nuff to say it deleted a program. It sill leaves registry entries and some hidden stuff around.

Revo Uninstaller Pro, CCleaner, but we often have to go into the registry and manually delete.

Also used Revo Uninstaller Freeware version to successfully remove traces of old IL2 install that were preventing a reinstall from CD.

Oh Noes! I accidentally installed two mod packs on the same IL-2! :OO I tried to uninstall IL-2 using the disc, but the InstallSheild Wizard stopped halfway, giving me the error code 0x80040707 and telling me I didn't have permission (which I do).

I then got the really stupid idea just to permanently delete the IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 folder from Program Files (where it shouldn't have been installed anyway, but I'll fix it). Bad idea. The disc still considered it "installed", AND can't uninstall it, the IL-2 folder no longer exists, and I can't figure out what to do! Please help! :-?

You need to remove the registry entries, but do not touch the registry if you do not know what you're doing.
