Well, usually when i record my videos on il2 with FRAPS, it has about 30 FPS, which is pretty good, but now, for no reason, it goes right down to 1,then climbs to about 20 and stays there, I've changed game settings, Fraps' settings, and deleted 3 viruses with McAfee but nothing works. thanks in advance.

Sounds like you got some stuff running in the background check to see if you got any spyware and check your registery you might have some bad registry files.

First off, you're on the right track with the scans. Second, GET RID OF MCAFFEE!!! McAfee is one of the WORST AV programs out. It and Norton are both huge resource hogs. You'll be much better off getting a free AV like AVG. Much smaller footprint and doesn't bog your system down. When I've helped others with this problem, 9 times out of 10 it has been either McAfee or Norton causing the slow downs. Once removed, all was fine.

Don't remove it until you are 100% sure your system is clean. Some (A LOT) of viri will leave a small bit of code as a rootkit that will redownload the virus and reactivate after a period. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few days or even weeks. They try to give you a false sense of security and then they hit you again when you think you are safe.

I believe I posted on another topic like this with step-by-step instructions on how and what programs to use to clean your system.

Just use your SearchFu and you'll be fine.

Jinxx is correct.


Another possibility is RAM capacity and/or RAM utilization. Since you had 30 FPS in the past with Fraps, this means that your RAM capacity is adequate unless you changed your RAM.

In your case, a remote possibility is that your RAM utilization or available RAM has been filled. This can be filled in any of several ways. Temporary InterNet Files is one.

Temporary InterNet Files: Copies of webpages, images, and media that are saved for faster viewing.

Solution: Browser/Safety/Delete Browsing History/ Check Temporary InterNet Files

I had your exact same problem. After I did the above, the problem disappeared.

Since Fraps is media, your RAM might be a point of competition between FRAPS and your Temporary InterNet Files.



Another possibility is adding a feature in the FRAPS recording or selecting an FPS level that is higher than needed. I usually use 29.97 but never use higher than 30 FPS recording mode. Higher is more demanding.


I have personally experienced each of these with FRAPS that I mentioned here and I applied the appropriate fixes each time to solve them.

Well, I don't know what norton version has Jinxx used, but my norton 360 4.0 uses ~10Mb of ram and isn't slowing down at all.

I consider 10mb to be a fairly good sized footprint for an Anti Virus Program, although there are others that occupy up to 140mb.
AVG occupies just over 2mb on my system.

As for the versions of Norton that I have used..
I first used Norton when it was Peter Norton back in the late 80's and continued using it until just a couple of years ago.
I've had access to almost every version of Norton(Symantec)/McAffee (including Military versions) and I find them to be huge resource hogs.

I always have Mcafee off, it's never scanning, it has a very small footprint when its not doing anything at all, (I do a scan with it once a week while playing Xbox 360 ) plus i'm getting more ram soon. (i've always had 2 gigs)

As for not having McAffe scanning.....
It's still scanning everything that is being run on your system as long as it's in memory. That's how virus scanners work. The footprint you refer to and are seeing is only the active component in the system tray. You may want to uninstall it and do some testing to see if that clears up your problems. That's probably the best way to see if your virus scanners are the problem.
