could anyone please help me
#1

i know iv made a few post on here before about my performance issues with il2 but im not seeming to get anywhere.
when i built my new computer back in july of 09 il2 ran great. iv updated alot of components since then. such as my RAM and video card,
my specs current are
Core 2 duo E8400 3.0ghz
4GB of RAM
GTX 460 1GB
windows XP

when i first built my computer i had an old 9600 GT and 2 GB of PC5200 ram or something like that.

i later went to a 9800GTX+ and used that up till about 3 months ago.
it seems like my computer could be just aging but iv spent a lot of money on upgrading things and i do keep my computer very clean. i run all the necessary malware,spy ware and virus scans along with registry cleaning. so i just dont feel like my computers putting out all its got with il2. other games run well like i think they should.

its kinda sad how i had to stop flying with my squad for the night tonite because of the performance i was getting in Spitsvs109s..
iv tried almost every tweak i can think of. i did try fireskulls wonderful guide, despite the great information i didnt get much improvement with my system.

heres my config ini

Austin,

Appearently there is a known problem with the drivers for the GTX460. New drivers were just released about a week or so ago.
Give them a try first and then let us know.

These are the Win7 x64 Drivers. If you have a 32bit OS, just go there and d/l those instead.

Will do what we can to help you out.

8FS_austin,

I did notice your need to change your conf.ini file to the following settings:

1) Effects=0 (Just try it: If no difference, then return to Effects=1)

2) TexFlags.ClipHintExt=1 (Use with Clip Hint enabled in your setup.exe file/IL-2 Setup window.)

GTX 460 did have a major driver gliche which I learned while reading an article on it. Good for Jinxx to catch that. However, exactly when that major issue arrived - in what driver - is lost in my memory. Sometimes drivers are issued which only address slight issues. If you can find a past driver which is like this, then that probably is your best choice.

GTX 460 is good hardware and can render IL-2 nice. It is worth the effort to try to keep it for a while.

It sounds like you might have a system where the components can run certain games well, but not the very demanding IL-2 because of hardware semi-incompatibility... A test in comparing another game with IL-2 should eliminate IL-2 or system settings as an issue. If both IL-2 and another game suffer, even after reasonable graphics settings, then it could only be either the driver or a hardware issue.

Semi-incompatibility of Hardware

This simply means that the components of the computer are capable of functioning together but not at the optimum performance of the highest performing component in the system.

Examples of Semi-incompatibilty

I remember vaguely that I helped a guy about six months ago or so who did not have enough wattage for his new graphics card. Another guy had a single core CPU and a brand new high powered graphics card that he mated with it, for example. Everything in his computer system was running through his old single core CPU and his capable graphics card was made lack luster by this.

Are you running IL-2 in both cores or in the second core? You should try both of these settings in your conf.ini file. A few people get the best IL-2 operation in both cores, but usually the second core only gets the best IL-2 performance for a dual core.

Another thing to consider is that some of the mods available in the last year are too demanding for most systems. Even the creators of these mods often admit that (Thanks for admitting that, modders - it makes things much easier for process of elimination.)

Spits vs 109s has quite a demand on the graphics rendering, from what some people have written. Is it open to all mods? Servers which are open to high demand mods will require a monster graphics system. Were you able to run Spits vs 109s with good performance before this? Regardless, someone might have introduced a high demand mod into the mix. You might have done so unawares yourself. UP update might give you a more demanding thing, but I actually don't know about that.

Does your IL-2 run poorly both online and offline? A major difference would be a big clue.

You see by my examples that there really are many things to consider. Despite the reality that you believe everything to be the same as before, the effects indicate that some cause has changed things.

We are in the search for what specically caused the changes.

Try the nvidia driver version 258.56 as theese on at least my system works better then the 260 version.
Im running wim7 64 bit ultimate with a msi 460 1 gb oc cyclone.

Then also try this in your config ini.

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=0
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=3
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=3
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=4
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=0

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

use nvidia control panel and adjust the settings there.
mine are and also worked great when running xp.

optimized for one screen.
af 4x
aa 8x
multisampling
aa modus =override
cuda gpu= all
max prerendered images=3
powermodus=max performance
teksturefiltering anisotropic optimatation=on
teksture filtering = qualety or high oerformance
LOD=clamp
teksture filtering treline= on
trippel buffer= on if lcd screen and vsync is enabled. else off.
Or why not try both!Smile

Wish you good luck!Smile

@fireskull thanks il try those settings. so i run il2 on core 1 its been the best for me. as for WOP the only problem i have is that the p47pit lag gets a bit worse. and other games run like they should. i noticed an increase in performance in most games when i upgraded from a 9800GTX. let me add one last detail. last month my harddrive crashed. a friend saved and transfered my windows data to my new harddrive. before the crash il2 ran very well. @hawk, thanks for the good info il try all that out this evening

thanks guys for the help. the drivers helped very much.

I'm posting in this thread because I have the exact same graphics card and problems as the OP. I.e. I have the GTX 460, and I've had single-digit fps every since my install. I've done everything short of downgrading my drivers (I'm using the 261 beta drivers).

I arrived at my own solution, but it's suboptimal and so *bizarre* and I want to share it with you guys. The offending setting turned out to be, of all things, HardwareShaders=1. Once I turn it off, the frame rates jump to the low-20s.

If anyone has a better workaround, let me know. At the moment I don't feel like downgrading my drivers just to blow up some carriers, when I haven't completed the campaign for the perfectly good alternative in Wings of Prey.

Again, as with Austin, we need to see your conf.ini and know what settings you have enabled in your Nvidia Control Panel.

The difference between hardware shaders 1 and 0 is that you are turning off all of the Nvidia Extensions.
You may as well be running in Direct X instead of OpenGL.

try older drivers. that brought my game back like it should be.
