Where are the Armament Data of IL2-1946?
#1

By armament data I mean the muzzle velocity, rate of fire, damage inflicted, and so on, of the guns and cannons used on all the flyable aircraft of IL2 1946.

So does anyone know in which file these data are stored under the IL2-1946 folder? How can I extract them? (I have the sfs extractor.)

Thanks in advance!!

Yes, but what do you need them for?

For having some deeper knowlodge of my weapons when flying combat missions offline and online. I love this flight sim, have been with it for years, and naturally want to know more about its contents. I am an ardent fan of IL2. (Besides, relevant historical data found on the internet are not exactly the same as those written in IL2-1946; for instance, it's said that in the sim all the A6Ms use the MG/FF cannon, whereas in real life A6M2 had Type-99 I, and A6M5 Type-99 II, these two cannons having very different muzzle velocities.)

Perhaps my questions concern some technical features of the sim that had better be kept away from public knowledge. I am not sure.

Type 99 I 20mm cannon was a copy of MG/FF cannon.
And Type 99 II 20mm cannon was a copy MG/FFL cannon.
Performance wise.

Last time i checked IL2compare, both are in IL2.

Ah, I see. Thanks for your repliesSmile.

Actually my interest is not in finding the armament data codes, nor in the method of extracting them. What I want is only the result - a table of those data, and nothing else. I had wanted to do the extraction myself because I did not want to bother others too much.

However, I guess the file size of the data should be not more than 500KB, so the extraction might be very simple to an IL2 MOD expert.

So I was wondering if any MOD expert could extract them for me and send me the data file via PM (or upload it somewhere). I'll be extremely grateful if I can get the help!

It would be great to have tables which you cannot easily convert back to game after editing.

You can help me?! Smile Any format or layout etc would be great for me, so please do whatever you think to be necessary; for I never think of editing the codes of the sim. Smile

I believe that such information as cannons' muzzle velocity was among the basic things taught to WWII fighter pilots when they received training in flight schools. But it is a pity that we IL2 sim pilots don't have such information from the sim's manual.

The readme does not have what I want.

You have the data of all the weapons fitted on fighters, or just those of the .50 machine gun?

zxwings....I have that kind of data for the 50's. Somewhere I have seen it for all the calibers even cannon. Go to UBI IL forums and do a search. This is all in a forum post somewhere.

Thanks for your reply! I know the data you mentioned which can be found in Ubi's IL2 forum Smile, but those data, originally posted many years ago, at least before the release of Pacific Fighters, are severely incomplete, lacking information about weapons on some important fighters seen in IL2 1946, especially Japanese fighters. And some armament data in IL2's codes may have already been changed during the many updates, so those data may be different from what are written in IL2 1946.

But I am interested in the data you have for the 50's, so could you please post them here or send them to me via PM?

Very simple. Others won't post. I won't either. But it is simple when dealing with modding and modders who keep "secrets" for anyone one of a number of their "reasons" that I won't debate here either. The answer to your question is found in your question itself. Questions and finding answer - ie learning/observation. Its the same science that gives rise to "modders." Its called reverse engineering.

Simply put, download one of their mods. Disect it. You will need to learn how to work with various class files. You will find all the answers. You will then become a "modder" and then you will have your own "secrets." But the nice thing will be that once you have some "science" experience of reverse engineering you will become self sufficient/independant as a modder! ie - self taught.

The only real secrets are when modding tools/utilities either developed privately or leaked from publishers is kept from public. With this sim that does not seem to be the case. The tools are out there. You just have to look for them. Google.
