Clouds Flickering and Performance
#1

I'm running HSFX 4.11 at max but I'm having an issue with clouds.
When I'm in bad weather and or rain the fps drop considerably I go from an average of 70/75 fps tp 15 fps furthermore sometimes when you look at the clouds there is an annoying flickering. I was able to increase 2-3 fps by changing the clouds from detailed to medium in the game menu but it is very little. Can someone tell me of remedy for the clouds performance?
Please be very detailed for any change needed.
Intel Duo Core E6400 Vista 32
4 GB of RAM
Nvidia 8600GT 512 MB card
Run everything in Perfect Mode and maxed out without problem except for the clouds issue.
Thanks for your answear.

Try enabling the effects_LOW from the JSGME. It has more FPS-friendly clouds.

I tried to use the FPS Booster mod but no difference. In my Confi.ini/[game] I do not have Type Clouds=1 (There is no type clouds entry). I installed it in my MODS folder like other mods but I also noticed that it require to remove the files Cloud.mat,cloud4x4.mat,cloud4x4_nosort.mat if present in the game. The only places where I can find these files are in the Jsgme mods , one is SOF Stock clouds and the other is Stock Clouds but are both not enabled. Ther is a way to make this mod working.

Yes, the clouds reduce the fps Sad .
Here you have information on how to optimize the clouds, but the number of them will be lower:

Convert the mod to work with JSGME by doing the following:

Open the OLC FPS Boost folder.
Add a new folder called 'Files'.

Now move all other files and folders in the OLC FPS Booster folder to the new folder that you just created.
Now move the OLC FPS Boost folder to the JSGME_Mods folder.
Now activate OLC FPS using JSGME and activate it last.
No need to delete anything now as it will overwrite the others when it's activated.

***Ignore the warnings you get when activating the mod. This is normal.

I opened th OLC FPS Boost folder, I created another folder called Files, I moved the files inside the OLC folder in the Files folder then I moved the OLC folder in the Jsgmods folder and I activated it as another mod, but NO DIFFERENCE.

We must do the texture compression in the conf.ini.

It was done already:
In my [Render_OpenGL]
TextCompress=2
TextCompressARBExt=1
The only thing regarding the OLC FPS Mod that I was reading was the CloudType=1 which I do not have in my Cofi.ini (There is NO CloudType line in it) and the issue of the 4x4mat files needed to be removed ?. In regarding this please see my original posting.

I don't have CloudType=1 in my conf.ini.
No need to remove files 4x4mat, you just have to enable the mod.

Unfortunately in just enabling the mod it doesn't work for me. But in doing some test I found out that if I switch via Jsgmod from Effect High to Effect Low or none of the two (Effect Default) I see an increase on fps of 15/20%.
Now in searching the content of these mods ,the Effect High has the Full Josse's Clouds while the effect low has IL2 default clouds and Effect default has Josse Cloud but limited to default resolution. So if there is a way to change just the Full Josse Clouds resolution in the Effect High so that you adjust only the clouds without removing the rest of the goodies.
If someone knows how to do that.

Do you want the clouds by default?
You must enable Stock Clouds in the JSGMEMODS.

Done that already, I also tried the SOF Clouds but actually in both cases it gets worst. At this point the only way I can see some actual difference is or use via jsgmod the low or default effect or via main menu the no clouds setting. Again when the weather is good or normal cloudy the game runs at high fps but when the weather is very cloudy or rainy the fps drop big time.
Thanks for the help.

Some correction. I have on the MODS folder the Plutonium Universal Maximum effect mod which works very well and on the JSGmod enabled the Effect High mod. Do I need also the Effect high in the JSGmods if I have this mod ? If I have the Plutonium mod on and the Effect High disable I have Higher fps but do I loose something or the Plutonium already override the effect high mod anyway?
Thanks,
