I have a question for everyone....

So I know this is a very very touchy subject but how does everybody on this site feel about shooting pilots hanging in their chutes? Ive done this by accident a few times I'm sad to say I know their Ai's but still I feel its wrong I know stuff like this really used to happen during WW2 and I wanted to know what the general feelings toward this were

i guess, it is not chevaleresque, and it is definitely a waste of ammo. Smile

Its definitely a waste of ammo why shoot a defenseless pilot? the most he's got maybe is a service pistol and against an aircraft.... The fun stops when he bails from his stricken bird if hes not in a plane he's no threat let him rejoin his sqaudron he will be just another challenge the next day

On one server I know of to shoot a chute = a 100 hour ban.
That should tell you how some feel.

In real life, pilots were often shot in their chutes if they bailed out over friendly territory. On gaming servers I can see where it might be considered unsportsmanlike conduct.

I'd have to say I don't feel one way or another about it because after all (IT'S ONLY A GAME DUDE!) nobody's gonna come to your house and shoot ya after you turn your computer off for the night for shooting a guy in a parachute.

I wouldn't second that! :Smile)

Well, we all know it's a game and you gain nothing out of it - shooting at a parachute - except maybe showing your character....

I find it is a waste of ammo, and also a waste of your time.
After all, while you are busy shooting at the chute, a guy could easily drop onto your six.

The AI's and pilots in their chutes use to have a very bad time with the enemy AAA targeting them. Felt sorry for them all.
Now things have calm down a bit. When I shoot down an enemy airplane I am always happy when everyone gets out OK.
That removes the guilt about the violence and stuff.
I then consider them as part of the scenery, or spectators to the ongoing action. Sometimes there are to many of them
for the 'replays' on trks; there should be a way (mod) to switch them off on video replays, as well as some excess of in
game cameras, come to think of it...

Saw this version of Angry German Kid ?

I think, as I recall, they had to relocate this guy's school, for safety reasons...

The irony is you would fire at an aircraft even if you knew it would fill the cockpit with rounds rather than miss the shot - which is exactly what happened historically and to give an AI pilot the chance to fight another day... hmmm

During the battle of Britain the RAF had plenty of spitfires, what they were short of was pilots to fly them, the Luftwaffe were probably unaware of this otherwise shooting an adversary who was dangling from a parachute would've been obligatory.

If it drifts into my gun sight it's a target

About stealing kills;I have often shot down as many plane that I could from
my own side in anger; but it takes a lot more ammo to do...
Seems these AI don't want to die !
