Hello All,

I am finally getting closer to buying a new computer. I would like to by a rig that will run IL-2 at maximium settings with good fps, but can also handle more recent games, such as Rise-of-Flight, Wings-of-Prey, or ARMA II at maximum settings.
Rather than putting together my own rig, or having a custom rig built, I would prefer to by something off the shelf, as is.
I would appreciate your suggestions in regard to optimal system specs (at reasonable prices) and brands.

Can run IL-2 full Graphics and any other game, eg Call of duty etc full graphics aswell.

If you can afford it, then I recommend something with a Gigabyte motherboard (ASUS is recommended, too), a Quad core processer (get at least 4 cores) such as the Intel i5, either at least a GeForce GTX 460 or ATI/AMD HD 5000 series graphics card, minimum of 4GB RAM (more is better but not critical), and extra slots in the case to leave room for expansion in the future as well as being cooler for your system.


"Sky is the limit" would include either ATI Crossfire or NVidia SLI technology which combines two or more graphics cards, liquid cooling, extra empty slots in the case, 6-8 GB of RAM, Gigabyte motherboard, higher than a GeForce GTX 460 or newer than the ATI/AMD 5000 (6000 series), extra separate cooling for the RAM, motherboard, and graphics cards, and factory overclocking (but don't go too high with it.)

Both Intel and AMD CPUs are great, so you can't go wrong with either type. NVIDIA latest cards have the real 3D technology and PhysX technology in at least the OpenGL 4.0 (higher in future update drivers).

On the other hand, I love how ATI/AMD cards render water, which is awesome to see.

By the way...

You did not mention the simulation Storm of War: Battle of Britain, but if you want to run it and other coming games and simulations, then you will need a DirectX 11 compliant system.

This is doable but such companies are hard to find. Most do claim custom build. Off hand, I can't remember which companies do a similar rig off the shelf.

If you're looking for off-the-shelf, look at either Voodoo (now owned by HP) or Alienware (now owned by Dell).
Even CyberPower has some good gaming systems.
Just remember, and Intel system is going to run you anywhere from $300-$1200 more than an AMD just because of the name.
The $$$ saved in buying an AMD system can be used to get a top end video card, monitor and memory for your system.

Check here and you'll have an idea of what things to look for in a top end system.
