For playing IL2 on maxed settings? Power enough in the GT240, even for Rise of Flight.

Radpig,

I'd look to the 260 or 280 for your needs or just wait a bit longer. Now that the 500 series are out, you're going to see the 200, 300 and 400 series prices drop to the floor within the next 6mos.

wow
i think i'll stick with GeForce GT 240, and if i heard correctly, it could even play Rise of Flight, all i want to do really is play some IL-2 on excellent at a good steady framerate

I love it when people who aren't in the industry try to chime in about things when they don't read the ENTIRE post.....
I wasn't telling him to buy a GTX580. READ THE ENTIRE POST!

@ RadPig,

You can get a GTX260 for between $129.00 and $150.00 fairly easy.
The GTX280's are still around $300.00

And yes, the GTX580 is at about $499.00 right now, but like I said, if you can wait about 6mos, the prices of the 200, 300 and 400 series cards are going to drop dramatically.
In other words, you will be able to get a GTX480 card for about $150 or less.

no, i read the entire post before, but i'm an impatient guy, and i dont have 6mos to spare anyways, i've already gone a long time without IL-2 anyways because the computer i had broke down, but i'll check out that GTX260, thanks

EDIT: that GTX260 is around 200 bucks, and i dont want a used one for $110. perhaps you're confused or you found a great deal that you could point me to?

RadPig,

My comment about reading the entire post wasn't directed at you. Guess I should have clarified...

As for the 260, here is the link to the one that I found.
It's not used, just on clearance. Like I said, the 500 series are out and everyone is changing up stock.

Hope it works out for you.

If you're currently using an Nvidia card, then all you'll have to do is plug it in and update the driver.
If you're using an ATI card, you'll have to do a little more on the technical side. Especially with your conf.ini file.

Keep us posted and we'll walk you through and try to make it as painless as possible.
Just remember, whatever headaches you have during your upgrade process will be rewarded with a beautiful looking sim that runs crystal smooth.

the one i'm getting is Nvidia based. does it apply to integrated graphics that's already installed, just plug and play?

Well, since you technically don't have a graphics card, all you'll have to do is install the new card, set up your game according to the guides for Perfect Mode and you should be good.

The only thing I can think of that you may have to do is to go into your BIOS and make sure that the first initialized display device is PEG or PCI-E or what ever your M/B calls it and, if necessary, disable the integrated video device.
