Clearing up CoD confusion - updating thread!

Please read the whole thread or only my posts! There is a change I might not update this post!

Hello everyone,

I'm here to explain every negative comment about IL-2: Cliffs of Dover, like you see on YouTube and the 1C forums.

(CoD = Cliffs of Dover)

The Russian release, 25th of March, is almost unplayable due to memory and graphic issues.
As you might know, the brand new Cliffs of Dover engine was completely built up from scratch. This engine was made for dual and multi-core CPU's. This took almost all of the game creation time.
Although, a lot of CoD players have issues with CoD not detecting their multi-core CPU's. This ends up with dramatic FPS drops and constant stuttering.
In example: If your system specs are: Intel i7 CPU, 2× HD6970's Crossfired and 16GB of RAM, you might just reach 20FPS Average on mid-high setttings. This is really weird since the example system is one of the fastest gaming systems you can build. I've even seen a CoD player with a GTX 570 and i5 who couldn't play CoD on low-lowest settings, 20 FPS.

1C has some explanations:
High Memory issues can be caused by the Anti-Epilepsy filter which Ubisoft added, just before the Russian release. (25th of March)
This filter takes the first frame from when the mission starts, and copies the brightness and contrast to the next frame.
(more specifically explained: This filter compares each pixel from each frame to adjust colour)
This disables fast light flickering. This filter however, takes up a lot of CPU and Graphic Card power. This filter also disables Graphic Card SLI (multi GPU) functions, and draws back 2 graphic cards back to 1.

1C later said:
'We had to let Ubisoft implement the Anti-Epilepsy filter, otherwise there wouldn't be a release. This filter cannot (and must not) be turned off.'

______________________________________________________________________________________________
1c also stated that they are currently fixing bugs, and then they will look for solutions regarding this filter.

Some people even think the filter is hoax?

This game also isn't compatible to most 64bits systems yet. Some people can play this game on med-high on a mid range PC, and some can't even play it on monster gaming PC's.
People are just afraid they can't run this game on their current system (like I do). The game is clearly broken. And I know personally that 1c always optimize their games to make them very enjoyable.

My thoughts are: CoD patch is already in the make for Russia, this patch is included for the next release. I think that's why they don't release CoD worldwide at the same day.
Since the USA version comes later, that would be the best version to get. I think Ubi should agree to make this filter an option once everything is set. So people who suffer from epilepsy can also enjoy this wonderful game!

I was right! Ubisoft is making the Epilepsy filter a option in-game, and they are adding a huge banner when the game starts up! What a relief! Sigh...

Here is the original 1c post:
'Hello everyone,

Once again I want to point out that a lot of your earlier anger was misplaced. Actually, our colleagues at Ubisoft are extremely interested in making this game a success, they care about our opinion and yours, and everyone we work with there is understanding and cordial and more than willing to listen and change their mind.

Having said that, I'm glad to announce that the debacle has been resolved.

We will be making the filter optional, however turned on by default. And we will be adding a large epilepsy warning to our splash screen. I am almost certain that this update will hit the steam servers on March 30th and thus seamlessly make it onto everyone's machines when the game is installed on the 31st.

The March 30th update will also address some of the issues reported with the Russian version, but we'll provide more details with the patch notes once we know for sure what it'll contain. Obviously, we need to test the heck out of all the changes to make sure we don't introduce any new bugs while fixing the old ones (the team's favorite past time lately as it seems).

So there! Do a happy dance, I know I did.'

My conclusion:
-Get your CoD copy once it will be released in your area (Europe 31st of March, USA and other in April 19th I believe)
-Install the game and test it out (you may never know what to expect!)
-Check the AAS forums or 1C forums for patches/updates if those aren't included on the disc already.
-Then play!

I hope this clears things up. If you have questions: Ask them!

Humph!
Strange explanation, but even with this I don't want to loose 60€ (around) to install my game and patches... and patches... in order to play with my new game pure from the box.
Stange attitude, strange explanation. With this sort of policy, even if it is real, I think this game issue will be a huge crash.
I hope no, but I am too afraid, waiting for some volunteers who want to pay for nothing or near nothing.
Sorry,I am sorry and worry...

thanks Ace i think that has helped many people and explain why all the youtube videos on medium settings only average around 20 fps on systems like the i7 6 core overclocked to 4.00Ghz. i saw one video where the best spec computer i have ever seen had tried CoD on max settings, flew their plane over london and got somthing between 2-5 fps...Lol

Cheers anyway thanks for clearing that up... however you got me a bit worried coz i'm running on a 64-bit system Sad Confusedhock: :-?

anyway i'm sure things will be fine

I know right! I have my thoughts about the explanation but I know 1c and I trust them. I know how they work, and I will wait the following months to see progress.

You are very welcome, Adam.
I'll keep this thread updated and will provide more information once I am sure it is real, not hoax.
I'm really going to update it on the 31st. Going to see if my European friends have problems like the Russians, too.

Edit: Just see CoD as a Beta now.

I've probably got some sad news you might've heard about. Oleg Maddox has probably left game development since 22nd or 21st. He said that it makes him physically tired. But according to some unknown resources Oleg hasn't been working on ClOD for the past few months. Maybe the co-producer takes point from now on? But note that this is not confirmed, just take this as a no!

I've also read that if the game doesn't sell, 1C stops supporting it. However, at the 24th of March, a 1C co worker said that support is fully-on!

That's some bad and good news here.

I'll keep it updated,

Thanks for this link, FZ.
He joined Vizerra, but I think he doesn't leave 1C!

... he was pushed outside 1C months ago, but this was kept secret ...

Now Luthier runs the dev and is in charge of CoD, I believe, and more than that, hope, that if Oleg had been in command he would never have released such a bugged and unplayable game ...

Oh, thanks for clearing up.
Let's wish the best of luck to Oleg and Luthier!
Let's hope that Luthier will patch up the game the following months and make it more playable!

I honestly think 1C should switch publishers to EA, ubisoft shoulden't make something possibly game breaking like that manditory, and its more of a national health issue than ubisofts issue... food for thought
