Have your first look at being in a trench in CK.

Wow that's a thousand times better than those painted on zipper like things in Rise of Flight!
Some planes, I think the Sopwith Salamander was specifically designed for ground attack, its kind of gruesome but it would be nice to strafe a trench or a MG nest on the ground in the middle of a battle.
WOW !!!!
Nice work ;o)

Now THAT's what a trench should look like; well done!

What kind of objects are they?
Ready-made for the map or adjustable?
Is the mission builder capable of cutting terrain with objects?
Thanks, and nice work!

They are 3D objects.
Yes ready made and can be placed on a map and adjustable
Up and down , back and forth, left and right.
You don't make maps in the mission editor, you make them with
The map making tool and in that tool you have a adjustable digging
Tool to dig into the ground then you set the trench in.

The map making capability sounds interesting.
What size, in KM, will the largest CK maps be?
Will there be complex trench networks, close to reality, or will they need to be greatly simplified?
Will there be realistic river profiles, so they "flow" downhill? and lakes at different levels.
Will it be possible to model tunnels, for railways and canals?
Will it be possible to model complex rail networks with multiple tracks, embankments cuttings, so it looks real?
-- and will it be possible to have moving trains?
I guess that sea levels changing with the tides will not be possible?

( What size, in KM, will the largest CK maps be? )
The maps in CK are made the same way they are done in Vehicle Simulator and are 1 to 1 scale.
The scenery / maps in Vehicle Simulator is based upon a global scenery model
In which every scenery has a rectangular area defined by minimal and maximal
Longitude and latitude.
The scenery / map is inherently made for covering actual areas of the earth, and
For using freely available data that can be download off the internet.
At the basis of each scenery lies the elevation matrix and the header file defining it,
And on top of that come layers of ground texture, vegetation and 3D objects of many kinds.
( Will there be complex trench networks, close to reality, or will they need to be greatly simplified? )
The trenches in CK are 2,3 and 4 lines deep all interconnected.
( Will there be realistic river profiles, so they "flow" downhill? and lakes at different levels. )
At this time no, although you can make rivers and lakes like some have done with other scenery/ maps
For Vehicle Simulator by grading down the land to sea level but the flow downhill is not there just like in
Most other sims.
( Will it be possible to model tunnels, for railways and canals? )
Yes!
( Will it be possible to model complex rail networks with multiple tracks, embankments cuttings,
So it looks real? -- and will it be possible to have moving trains? )
Yes to all, and with moving trains just like anything else, AI and way points.
( I guess that sea levels changing with the tides will not be possible? )
Not at this time.

Thanks for the detailed reply.
I can see the rail enthusiasts getting interested if its possible to do all those things.
Regarding my first question, I presumed that the maps would be 1:1, but what I was wondering was what size is the detailed populated map which is being worked on by the CK mappers. 250 x 250km? or bigger?
What is the historical area of the Western Front which is being worked on, assuming its part of the western front.

Sorry about that I ment to put this in, ( approximately 300 sq miles )
For the historical maps.
The first release will be from London to the Italian broader for historical maps
And will be cut into 2 maps west and east and then there will be a fictional
Island map for quick game play.
