Is CoD as bad as I have read?
I read something saying basically that the graphics are amazing and the best you can find in any flight sim, but the FPS are so choppy that it kills the experience.
They also said it was realeased way too early.
I love the idea of an awsome flight sim, but I have enough problems running IL2 1946 with good FPS normally.

It's getting better with every patch, mostly.
There's still a lot do to... but it's getting better all along...

Basically I have to say, it is a beautiful game (as you can see on AdamB videos;o) with many possibilities. As an example you can choose the equipments of you pilot (glasses, gloves, jacket...), and the planes, the landscape, the effects are awesome.
But on the other hands, as you said, there is a big problems with FPS. I have a Compaq 8510p, Intel Core 2 Duo, the configuration required, but can't play because of FPS...
So to conclude, if you have a very competitive computer, you will have a lot of fun, if not, you will have to be patient ;o)
I remember when the first IL2 came out, you had to wait 10 or 15 mins during the loading (computer were not as efficient as today), and during the flight it was really difficult to stay alive when you had realistic options. 10 years later, IL2 series are still the best WWII sim ever...

Yes there is a massive problem to do with the fps of the game and 1C is working furiously to try and resolve this.
However, the game (at high settings) looks absolutely stunning, even more so when the sun is setting
The land is beautiful.
However, no flightsim is just about graphics. The engine itself is decent and the complex engine management is very "complex"
It is a very true to life sim.
Also, the damge model in the game is absolutely astounding. With damage/visual effects on high/veryhigh you can see the bullet hole of each bullet, or see the list of components getting damaged as your being shot at
So on the whole it is very good game that will be amazing in a few months time, yeah a long wait for something that was said to be out in 2008 and is now delayed in the US until th 19th June
