which mods do i get?
#1

Hey folks just did a fresh install of 1946 and all patches and I'm ready to dl the mods. Can someone tell me what mod pack I need (is there a ultra pack or do I need a hfsg). Not exactly sure what hfsg is.
Sorry but it's been awhile since I've been here and not sure what I need.
I'm running 8gbs ram,EVGA 560ti graphics card,and I5 2500k proccessor.
Thanks for any help in advance. TC Baker(skyvyper)

Hi,

HSFX or UltraPack, either one, and you can not go wrong. They are both large mod packs with tons of modded content.

Here is a little guide for getting started, but be sure to visit UltraPack website to get updated information on their mod pack. Some are still preferring older mod packs for various reasons including certain mods which are only compatible with them.

Also look at Special Aircraft Service and Fusion Pack.

Histomod and Free IL-2 Modding are found in the IL-2 modding community section of this site. They have wonderful mods.

Thanks fireskull. Now I need to figure out which one is best since there are so many options. Do you have one that you prefer over the others?

skyvyper,

I actually have been focusing on making my own stuff for the last several months and I have not used any of them recently because of my work. For this reason, I can't give an updated opinion on it.

Different mod packs all have strengths and disadvantages.

If you are interested in online combat, then I highly recommend joining a squadron and using the modding system or pack which they use. ( Some like using stock IL-2 1946 ) There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of IL-2 online squadrons. We have a long list for people to get started:

As I always have in the past, I recommend doing some research, visiting various IL-2 community forums, trying at least two mod packs, and maybe asking the community or by PM which mod packs are preferred and why they like them.

By the way, always keep a clean ( untouched ) copy of anything of importance. Grabbing a copy is much easier and quicker than re-downloading and re-patching, as I am sure that you know. Smile

Do you want to have a collection of mods in a mod pack with little or no adding of individual mods to it or do you want to do much mods adding? The answer to this could be a big factor in your decision.

Have fun with it every step of the way, even as you learn more cool things. Smile

Thanks for the reply fireskull.
I think I am going to go with hsfx 5.0 and the hotfix.
I'm not looking to add a lot of mods and hoping to just get a pack with mods in it.
In the past I had the ultra pack on my old xp machine but now I have a new rig with win 7 and did a clean install and made a untouched copy.
If i do add anything in the future it would be missions and campaigns if possble (my favorite on from a few years ago was the enterprise campaign but don't think it is compatible with tyhe new mods).
Thanks for help and advice. TC (skyvyper)

Just a tip with Win7.
DO NOT install in programs or programs ( X86.)
Place it outside of those

Drive letter:\Ubisoft\Sturmovik 1946

Thanks Sky,
I did some research before I installed and then put it in it's own dedicated folder on my c drive, made a copy of the clean install patched to 9m then made another copy before patching it the rest of the way to make it up to date.

how come you think the Enterprise campaign is not compatible?

It is for a stock game. everything that was designed for stock works with any modpack (just does not use any of the new planes or so).
Make sure you understand what mods do (and do not do) to your game.
