Gun sounds are very silent
#1

Hi there!
First of all i have to say that HSFX is the best mod ever made for IL 2!
The graphics sound its awesome!
But i have a problem. The sounds of the guns are not loud enough! I cant hear them. I only hear this sound of the wind like if you stall your plane.
Inside the cockpit and also outside i cant hear the sounds. I know there were fixes for it but they didnt work!
Can you give me tips for my audio settings or give me some fixes?

Hi,

I have swapped the conf.ini file section for things by copy and paste and that works. If you kept the original download, then you could simply take the conf.ini file of it and do the copy and paste of the sound section. The related method is to swap the whole file but you will need to reset a bunch of things in IL-2 if you do the whole thing. After you get the settings the way that you like, then you should right click on the conf.ini file. In the box which appears, go to properties and check the READ-ONLY to make the settings stay in place. Next time you want to make changes to anything in IL-2 configuration, you will need to un-check the READ-ONLY, make the changes, and finally re-check the READ-ONLY at the end of the process. You should go look at what the READ-ONLY status is.

Can you change the volume of things in IL-2 SetUP or directly by the conf.ini file? I am not familiar enough with HSFX to know if there is a setting change there, too, but I doubt it. I don't remember any.

Lastly there is a way to go into the guns file and change the volume but I have never done it in HSFX and don't know the exact procedure. Years ago I changed the volume of some things in the old Unified Installer mod pack by opening the sound files (copies of them for safe-keeping) in a program and increasing as I liked them. I saved the original permanently but got good results in the tweaked ones.

If anyone has some more insight, then please help.

It is fun to tinker with copies. Let me know how it goes, okay? Smile

This could also be a driver problem.

The sound could be tested with a new driver installation, either the same driver or a previous one. Also, you could restore your system from a saved restore point. You might lose some things but if that is not an issue then try it.
