They also had a lot of obselescent and aerodynamically challenged designs in service. As I recall the Bloch 210 wasn't particularly outstanding as a warplane, and unfortunately for the French, the good ones were too late getting into front line service. However, that didn't matter much because French leadership was their achilles heel. Individual pilots were as brave and capable as any nation, just that their efforts were badly targeted and coordinated.
