As per subject line. I have used notepad to merge some missions together for the new maps for QMB+ and on some occasions when you go into the mission and bring up the map there is no plot for the aircraft --- blue or red. Everything else is fine to include ground objects I have placed. But since I have no idea where I am I don't know if the quick mission dogfight is over the ground battle where I want it to be.
So why does this happen and how do I fix it?

I assume you have your difficulties setting correct?....to switch off the mini-map path and map icons...??
Yes, I did not touch that within difficulty settings.
I had a problem with my FMB earlier, and just goes to show how strange errors can be.
I was building a mission when my game crashed, and when I restarted the game the FMB had lost all menus an I could only select Exit, which didn't work either. I had AAA mods installed at the time, and I uninstalled my game.
After the reinstall and patching, I tried 3 or 4 times to install the game and soundmod, but nothing worked. I then removed it again, reinstalled and settled for having it standard 4.08 without mods. I've flown without mods for a couple of weeks now and I tried re-installing the mods today, and now it works beautifully.
My advice: reinstall!
