Camouflaged Hangars
#1

Seeing all the work that has been done i
n reskinning objects, I was wondering if it would be possible to skin hangars, which would be especially usefull for 1944-1945 Luftwaffe airrfields.

Also it would be great if we could add parts of trees and camouflage nets on certain buildings.

Good idea. The japanes camoed everything:

Seems like the same way you make a franken plane you might be able to combine tree/bush models with other objects?

Very easy to do,

much easier then skinning planes, and we have most of hangars and alike object extracted easily. That’s only a mater of will to do it. Then, who is applying for the job?

Example:

Just talking out loud here... since we can't (yet) add new objects, we'd be reskinning existing ones. So for a given map we'd need an object skin pack to go with it, right?

Say someone makes a August 1942 to The fall of Bouganville in '44. Would that person possibly reskin the objects and include them with the campaign? You activate the campaign mod, and get the new objects, and should you want to play winter in Moskow, you'd deactivate the Solomons campaign?

So, we can skin a hanger and things? "Paint" them in camo colors, etc.?

And (sorry for the slight topic change) can the height of objects be fixed, or is that still only for certain objects? I'm thinking of a conversion of a control tower into a flak tower. Possible?

Saunders, I wonder if it would be possible to mod a particular AAA gun model like a frankenplane. Use the control tower object as the base for the gun so the whole thing is one object...

Obviously for the ETO, you might pick one of the japanese guns since it is otherwise unused.

Good idea, tater. Not me though...I don't know squat about skinning or whatever. Avala, what do you think? But could we get a WORKING flak tower???

Tater, your comments here and on the Slot map about the AI is spot on, and frustrating as hell that those problems can't be fixed. At least I haven't seen anyone with the skill to make those needed changes speak up much about them on other threads where you discussed it. Are they considered FM/DM mods and thus off limits? If only tio get AI to fy lower, and in proper formation would help alot. Miserable AI abilities was one reason I completely left the game 18 months ago. It was the combo 4.09 and these mods that got me excited again about IL2. I hope the community can make progress on fixing these things. Lal-Rones destruction mod and Fly's mods to that helps out some in regard to destroying things properly.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, Metatron. Now back to the originally scheduled program......

It would be nice to know how to add a new object to the game (such that you can use it in FMB). Then even if that object differes from the original one just by it's skin we'd have the possibility of so many new objects. Anyone knows how to do that? I tried that right before registering here but with no luck, hm maybe I'll give another try.
Skinning? Since 99.99 of the skins are not openable with image progs that we have, it means we have to use the splash screen mod to get openable tga's then resize them and repaint? Is this right? Is this all?

Think so, yes.

Hey, one cool thing to mod... That wierd chevron shaped rampart object? Green on one side?

That is almost exactly the same heigth as the forest is. I used to use it to give a side view to the forests, actually. Throw those with the green side facing the airfield into the layered forest, and bam, they are not transparent any more.

What if we reskinned it to look like jungle (from the side) instead of flat green?
