FM Guru's a question for you on how to fix CV's and catapult
#1

I had an idea last night and posted it in another thread but I don't want it to get lost before some people who actually might know the answer see it.

My thought dealt with a way to fix the "stationary CV" problem in which AC cannot takeoff with bomb loads in Coops (w/o editing the wind speed etc) , and can barely take off at all in Dogfights with stationary CV's.

My question is regarding how the varios "WEPs" are modelled. What if we model at "catepult" on the Aircraft and not the CV? Several LW FM's have a limited duration WEP injection. Why not harness this and use it to our own advantage since its already in the game. To do this, we modify the FM of say the upcoming P80 by adding a WEP that gives it a large power boost but runs out in 5 seconds or so. The boost would be fairly rediculous in order to simulate the thrust of a CV catapult, but would run out almost immidiately leaving the intact normal FM to fly with.

Is this even possible or at least on the track of something that might work?

Lateral thinking.. Thats good, it's what we need. Always another angle if you look hard enough!
However, the sayers of doom and woe will worry that this 'feature' may be used to unfair advantage whilst airborne to obtain a rapid five second megaboost of power during a dogfight!
What are the odds?..lol

I think something like this could be done. And it could be coded so the power boost only occurs if the gear are on the ground. That would keep people from using it in a dogfight.

However...it seems the most realistic way to solve the problem WOULD be to edit the wind speed. (I may be a little biased toward the wind mod.Smile) You can add the wind to both coop and dogfight missions. If you didn't want the wind to interfere with the mission once you're off the deck, you could set a very low top for the wind. That way it would only come into play on takeoffs and landings.
