White Star TGA
#1

I located the whitestar1 TGA file which is the white star extending beyond the royal blue circle and is used if you select USAAF/USMC/USN on the Corsair Mk1, PBY Nomad & a few other planes that were US Aircraft but the game has assigned to another country.

I have extracted this TGA file from the file.sfs file and can edit in PhotoShop 7.0. When I edit this so that the star and circle are both the correct color and size, how do I convert the file so it goes back to its original format in the file.sfs file and can be used in the game.

I am new to this so please don't take any shortcuts when you explain how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

It's really simple. first, edit the .tga to your preferences. make sure that any areas that you want to be transparent are that way in the .tga. Make sure you keep it a 64x64 pixels, otherwise it won't work. then, using whatever image editing program you use, save it as a .tga file. Then, go into your MODS folder and create a new folder (it doesn't matter what the name is). inside this, make a folder called paintschemes. Inside this, make a folder called decals. Inside this, make a folder called states. Then, put your edited .tga in this folder. The final structure should be C:\ (whatever your il2 folder is)/MODS/(your folder)/paintschemes/decals/states/whitestar1.tga

This will also work for all of the other national markings, just createa new folder inside decals with the same name as theone in the extracted .sfs folder.

I want to thank you very much for providing this simple answer. This is exactly what I was looking for in the way of an answer.

I created a folder called National Insignia and placed it in the MOD folder. This is where my edited whitestar1.tga file is now:

F:\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 mod\Mods\National Insignia\paintschemes\decals\States

No more awful looking default national insignia decal for the F4U-1 (Corsair MkI), PBN-1, P-39N etc. in the SWPTO.

Another question if you don't mind. There is no seperate folder for Australia. Is it possible that this folder can be created so that when one chooses a P-40E (Kittyhawk IA) and selects RAAF for the country a specific decal can be chosen based on the date?

I know that until July 1942 RAAF Kittyhawk IA (P-40E) and Kittyhawk III (P-40M) used the roundels that were a combination (Found in the Mods\National Insignia\paintschemes\decals\British folder) of roundel2c on the upper wings & roundel3c on the rear fuselage. After July 1942 the roundels were roundel5N (Mods\National Insignia\paintschemes\decals\British).

It would be nice if it was possible to choose RAAF for static Aircraft in the FMB instead of having to choose a British Desert Kittyhawk IA for the Port Moresby area.
