SB2C HellDiver???
#1

Does anybody know if a SB2C Helldiver is in the works to be released, and if so when might we expect to be able to fly the Beast. I for one am looking forward to being able to take off the carrier and dive bomb some Jap ships in my Helldiver. What a great plane it would be to have in this game, since it did replace the Dauntless, which is the game, I think we should have a Helldiver also. Anybody agree????

The Helldiver is one of the many sadly missed aircraft in this game.. but as always, this aircraft would have to be fashioned from existing aircraft meshes in IL2!
Anyone have any idea what parts from existing planes could be used?

Quote:The Model XB2C-1 prototype initially suffered teething problems connected to its R-2600 engine and 3-bladed propeller; further concerns included structural weaknesses, poor handling, directional instability and bad stall characteristics.

The Avenger FM would be perfect

Yea, I always thought the FM would be great for the "SOB 2nd Class".

Actually, once you have the TBM trimmed up for the speed it's going, it flies quite nice. I don't think that the "Beast" was nearly as well behaved in the pattern as the Turkey was in RL, or is in this game. I'd vote for the FM of the Brewster Buffalo before I'd settle for the TBM's FM.

Actually only the early versions had problems. the SB2C-4 & 5 were mean mother F---ers. This is a rough statistic, but I remember reading somwhere that of all Japanese shipping sunk durring the war, 60% was from US submarines. Of the remaining, 60% of that was sunk by Helldivers alone.

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek( if you hadn't guessed).

I'm sure it will come with it's own slot and unique FM.

Well, it doesnt look like we dont have too many of the parts required... Avenger nose, cockpit, kate reart perhaps... I dunno...I would have thought the tail would be a right pain though...

I think a resized P-40 tail would be better IMO. We might actually get the wings from the P-40 too. As for fusolage ... :?: Maybe Avenger, Maybe Corsair or a combination of the two?

I dissagree. The Hellcat has a wierd egg shapped opening. The Helldiver is almost perfectly round. Maybe eliptical in the vertical slightly. I think Wildcat or Corsair would be better than Hellcat.

Try looking at the two from dead on, you see what I mean.
