"Bismarck Sighted"
#1

The "Bismarck" was first spotted by photorecon Spits before she broke out into the open sea. Once out, she engaged British naval forces and then fled with the Royal Navy in hot pursuit. Through a series of mishaps, the Royal Navy lost track of "Bismarck" and had no idea where she was for 30 hours until a Catalina of No. 209 Squadron, RAF, spotted her trailing an oil slick. British vessels then closed in and the rest is history.

Thanks a lot, Mike! Much appreciated, M8! Big Grin

No, Whiskey, the clouds are not from IL2, M8.

It's a "composite" image. I used a photo that I grabbed off the net for the background BUT I only used a very small piece of a much larger image and worked it over HEAVILY with Photoshop. Big Grin

If you have an editing program that can work in layers you should give it a try, M8! Takes a little while to get on to it but the more you make, the better you get at it. Lots of tricks to be learned. :!:

Great work! I love the way Bismarck is "peeking out" behind the clouds and fog.

Thanks a lot, Aaron! Big Grin

That "peeking out" was what I was going for. It was the hardest part of the whole thing and I must have redone it AT LEAST 40 times before I got something that looked half way decent!

Found an overhead picture of a navy vessel at sea. Replaced the vessel with an overhead image of a high quality scale model of the "Bismarck" that I fround on the net. The entire layer with the ship and the water is quite small but I only needed a small hole in the cloud cover.

Then the issue was where and how to position the ship layer. Did that over and over again til I was ready to puke, lol! I put a copy of the underlying background layer over the top of the ship layer and erased so as to leave some clouds. Erase too much or use the wrong size brush or the wrong strength on the eraser and you get to do it over... and over... and over again! The plane was the easiest part of the whole thing!

Despite the fact that it can sometimes be frustrating, it's still fun and a good challenge!

Aboslutely right, Gringo! That's exactly what I done did. You know that because of your experience making images.

I looked for text or numbers but forgot about the swastika, lol!

Maybe I'll fix it. Very easy to do as I've saved all the work and all of the layers.

Darn! I was hoping that Murilo, or someone, would take the bait. Even had a bunch of reversed swastika pictures lined up in case someone posted swastika shots as "proof".  Was ready to play some trout! I'll take you there if you're willing to go!

Thanks, M8!

Thanks a lot, M8! Of course, points must be deducted due to the swastika error! Big Grin

Sorry that you have the flu, Big Bos! Flu is really nasty! Hope you feel better soon. :!:

If you're young, your body has plenty of resources to handle it so things usually turn out well. Get PLENTY of rest and drink adequate fluids. Hydration can be more important than nutrition with flu!

Uh... no beer though, M8!

Oh, missed your insightful comment, GK. Sorry about that, M8! Big Grin

IMHO, it was supposed to take you 5 minutes to find "Bismarck" in the pic, M8! Don't worry, GK, once you start actually making images, instead of merely posting comments on them. it may all become clear.

BTW, how are you coming with that image, M8? Any problems? Need some help :?:
