A old effect from IL2 days...

There was an oldtimers post @ UBI & Choctaw posted this:

Anyway, I've been around here since I discovered this great sim during the winter of 2001. I wish there was a way I could get my old nick and password back. I lost 3 years on that deal. That's the way it goes.
There are still things I liked about the original release. Maybe it was even in the demo.
Does anyone remember the water spots on the windscreen when it was raining? I miss that effect.

I don't remember that. I came to IL2 after the 1.1 patch.. by then that was gone, either that or I might have been stuck in the QMB trying to learn to fly these strange new planes... (New to me at the time..) Anyway... is there a way to maybe take this effect from the stock IL2 and add it to this sim? It might be even easier to do.... and perhaps this same effect could be used to create a oil blotch effect that would dissipate over time.. as it would on a real aircraft traveling at high speeds... I just heard an account on the Mil channel from a pilot that that happened to in a F-4.... he mentioned how the oil cleared up after a while because of his speed.

Anyone?

I remember that perfectly.

It was in the original IL-2 Demo i think. Not sure about the original full game.

I still remember that bomber intercept mission with the P-39 i think in bad weather. I botched the take off and there i was laying on a side with one wing pointing towards the sky, a lot of plane parts allover the place and the rain pooring down my windscreen. Was an epic experience in a flight sim for me. Confusedhock:

Since that day i'm hooked.

I'd love to see that somehow resurected in the game.

The demo has been changed few times over the years.

The original one had it. I'm talking late 2001. The demo released before the game.

maybe it is somewhere hidden in the game code still but was turned off to save fps rates?

The following reply seems to be all I'm posting recently

This has ironically been suggested a few times, along with a few other 'past features'... I think someone was looking into it at one stage, but they might have fallen off the board...

Personally, I believe it would be great to have some of those old effects re-activated, I'm sure they must be still sitting there dormant - they wouldn't be alone in unturned on or deactivated features.

They would be great indeed

The old effect I would love to have again is the rumbling sound of the wheels on the takeoff or landing roll. Really helped the immersion.

I had installed IL-2 Sturmovik the other week just to see that effect. In version 1 and 1.1 I couldn't find it... was it limited to some aircraft only? Confusedhock: I tried 109, IL-2 and FW.

I don't think it was included in any release of the game itself- just the first version of the demo.

Maybe its possible to recreate it or extract it from the demo into 1946 ?
