Problem with guns sounds, advice?
#1

The 12.7m (50 cal) guns sounds in the game after I modded it are much, much too loud from an external view. Also, the 20mm cannons on the fw-190 make no sound in or out of the cockpit. I believe this all happened after I downloaded the mustang rear view mirror mod. I was wondering if there is a way to set the volume of the gun sounds, maybe in the IL2 46 folder somewhere?

Thanks! Smile

I had similar problem once, and it was because during an installation of some mod when I was asked which sound mod version I have, I entered wrong one (frankly, I forgot which one I really had). Hope this helps.

you need the correct buttons file for your version, if not some sound will not work

if you open any prs files you can edit the spl value for higher/lower volumes

if you want only the external to be less loud then you need a wav editor to change the master volume

agree with Vpmedia, if the problem persists then i recommend using sound forge or a free version calle Audacity. very easy to use. Open the file, highlight the sound and increase or decrease the decibels (DB) only by 3 to avoid distorting. Then export as Wav.

You know, after I installed some patches (And I think the latest AAA mod pack) it seemed like some of the guns were using different sounds. When I had first installed the sound mod the .50 cal's were changed from a blender blade "Whiiiirrrr" default to a real gun like sound. Suddenly they sounded like a Cuisinart again...

I swear that happened to me with the 30 cals right after I installed the engine sounds mod.

I got a 0.93 sound mod (SFX doesnt include .50's) but I moved it from the default 'files folder' to MODS so I got everything at one place (I doesnt use the auto installers rather extract everything to a temp folder and take a look at the files first, so 99,9% of mods worked me for first try )

the full path for .50 preset is:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\_SOUNDMOD\presets\sounds\weapon.MGunBrowning50s.prs

or

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\files\presets\sounds\weapon.MGunBrowning50s.prs
