Spit Mk1/Vb instrument repaint
#1

my first attempt at modding and as such is a bit of a testbed for some ideas/techniques.

instrument textures are done in 1024 res so low end gpu's might struggle

i regard this as very much a 'get you by' until Avala releases his full spitfire pit

this is only for Mk1 and Vb 1941

some instruments are from later spits to approximate ingame needle behaviour(eg asi, boost)

i've toned down nightlighting deliberately in an attempt to get a dim glow- bit of an experiment

still somethings to sort out but i hope some of you will enjoy

installation
extract folder boloxspitvb to a convenient place and then drop this into your mods folder

it looks nice , works like a charm and i didn't notice any drastic fps impact ( p4 3G ; 2G DDR ; NV7600gt 256 ...)

i would recommend it to every spit lover such as i

many thanks

Just remembered i've got a 7800GS - used to have a 7600GT !!

Landscape detail in 'perfect' looks awesome but get some lag when generating cities !!

Want my Dual core .....etc

These instruments look very nice when you zoom in, but somehow they look too sharp, I mean shimmering when I zoom out Sad

I think these instruments are too good for the crap textrures around it *wink wink*
That's why I won't download, but nicely done nevertheless! Now just do the textures, someone, and then a new cockpit folder for the Mk1 with a Hurricane stick and it's almost perfect. I would do it myself, but I don't have a tenth of the skill needed to do it :?

yah, but Avala lost both computers (don't know the details ...) so until he fix something new ...

Anyway , as i know Avala he would appreciate this ... heck maybe they can join forces once Avala returnes

thank you for the kind words

the 'shimmering' is a problem that seems to be caused by too much detail- particularly fine lines runnning parallel/close to each other, particularly bezels and fine markings on dials. this appears to be the games rendering engine's way of dealing with it. first version i did was worse in this respect and i've learnt a bit about what i can get away with, in some respects less is more

as i said this is a testbed for some ideas and it reached a stage where i thought it might be a stopgap until Avala does the whole job properly. his work was a major reason for me to consider attempting this- and the thunderbolt pit reference thread.

thanks again

It looks a hell of a lot better than the original panel so a little shimmer is not a bad trade. And it sounds like Avala is going to be out of commission for a while anyway.

Thanks bolox.
