Ahh, apologies, its a torpedo....the angle of it is just so that I mistook it for a bomb....I thought the JU was a little too close to the water to be dropping bombs ....My mental? Smile

On IL2 it doesn't matter how close to the water you are; you can skim even the largest bomb. Try taking an SC1800 towards a battle ship, dive in, fly a few feet above the water, drop it, and climb lik hell! It'll skim, and often it hits the side of the ship (although occasionally it doesn't skim far enough, and other times it bounces over the bow!) I'm far more likely to hit a ship like that, than to propperly dive with a stuka.

Nb I haven't tried the fatman 21Kton nuclear bomb from the B29 silverplate, but i bet it'd work anyhow!

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

Ahh but in reality if you did that with a real bomb that close to the water youd be blown into the next millenia, which is what I was originally getting at, what you can do with a bomb in il2 bares very little resemblance to reality

Judging by the skin that has been applied on the torpedo, it is a training one and therefor will be rather unperilous to be dropped from that altitude anyway. btw, you should refrain from any close-ups till we have taken care of the good old Ju Wink

Bouncing with silverplate bombs is not possible...

not really, water skip bombing was a very popular method of anti-shipping attack in the pacific, and i'm pretty sure that was added for the Pacific Fighters release, as i'm sure i recall in the old days dropping bombs in water and tey'd just drop through it doing nothing. bombs are usually set to arm after falling or travelling a certain distance, so dropping them at low altitude would not necessarily result in an explosion. i don't know for sure how the detonation process was carried out in these attacks in ww2, but i imagine the bombing fuse was changed to an impact fuse so the bomb would skip on its side and blow up when the nose impacted the side of the ship. though i will grant that skip bombing with fatman or little boy would most certainly be suicidal as i can't imagine a B-29 being able to fly quite that fast to escape that blast Tongue

BTW, is that skin done Istvan (VP), looks like one done with an older template of mine which included mech upgrades including the Jumo Rads seen here?

Zorin take a look at my JU88 pig thread, it doesnt look so bad close up Smile

Balst mechanism doesnt explode if you drop it from low altitude to "soft" material like water. When it stops boundcing, it goes to bottom of the water. When you bomb, you usually drop bomb over 100m and if you try bouncing, you usually try to hit da ship. Im pretty sure bombs dont explode from little sidehit... Small bombs bounce in a land too like water, and big bombs almost everytime turn nose down even little bit. B-29 doesn't keep in one piece if you go 1200 kmh+ what is needed for escaping atomic bombs. Your mind should say you cannot bounce atomic bomb, over 3000kg cannot bounce, like atomic bombs don't.

Yes, this is pointless message, repeating other guys words

well excuse me. was just trying to establish the historical basis for it and that it is not impossible is all. i have little interest in bombers and bombing in general so i've A.) never tried it in game to see and B.) just haven't studied bombers and bombing in general that but to know for sure but know i'd read enough to know that such bombing actions did occur. that's all.

Sorry mate, you've lost me? Your post suggests a little indignation? I'm wondering why that is? Jarmo was re itterating the fact he was more or less concurring with some one elses view but then says he may be repeating the view for no real reason other than to concurr as I understand it?
Then I wrote 'indeed' in a 'tongue in cheek' agreement, hence the wink Wink

So I'm at a loss as to why you have gone on the defensive with your retort? No one has questioned the validity of your point and no one has challenged you about it?

I think you may have misunderstood the exchange between Jarmo & I? Either that or I have?
