Where's Net3Summer & Net7Islands?

Hope I posted in the right thread. If not please move it.

I cannot load Net3Summer or Net7Islands into the mod version of the game. They load fine after switching to an unmodded version.

I checked my mapmods folder and have a folder for both Net3Summer and Net7Islands with load.ini files. I have the following entries in my all.ini file inside the mapmods folder:

Net3Summer Net3Summer/load.ini
Net7Islands Net7Islands/load.ini

Now I compared the load.ini files and although there are some missing entries in the Net3Summer file both Net6Islands (which loads fine) and Net7Islands .ini files are exactly the same. So are the contents of their respective folders. All three contain just an load.ini file, no static actors/.tga's etc.

I do have several other mod maps installed including vp medias retextured maps. Could it be that one of the maps I installed do something to Net3Summer & Net7Islands? I know that HB's "Extended Pacific Islands" map overwrites Net8Islands and followed the instructions for having both maps available, which they are. None of the other installed maps instructions or ReadMe's indicated that default maps would be overwritten or changed (other than vp medias re-texturing of course).

Is there a way to "re-install" these maps?

Any help/suggestions appreciated as I would like to continue using them. Net3Summer is an excellent dogfight map.

Boris, check if you have only one all.ini in your game folder (you should have only one)...

there are all.ini files in the user and training folders....but they are nothing to do with maps

I meant map all.ini files. Remember we had first all mods in il2root/files. So the all.ini was there too. Now we have the maps and all.ini in il2root/mods/mapmods/maps/
So it's possible to have several Map all.ini if you didn't delete the old one or maybe if youdownloaded maps for other sites which have different conventions for the folder structure. Only one will be read by game, but maybe it reads the " wrong" one (I don't remember if it reads the one deeper in the subfolder structure or the opposite?). For example I have the all.ini still in the old files/maps, maybe just lazy.
Anyway, I can't see any other possibilities that a standard map doesn't show in FMB!

Thanks for the responses.

I looked through my mod folders and only found one all.ini file, in mapmods.
No other folders have all.ini files that I could find except the two all.ini files noted by fabinfred.

I do have a "Files" folder in the root directory which contains the following:

*Folder "gui" which contains foler 'game'\buttons
*Folder "i18n" which contains several' _ru.properties' files including "maps_ru.properties". It just appears to be the FMB list names for the maps, i.e. "Net3Summer Online3Summer".
*Folder "presets" which contains folder 'sounds' which contains mostly engine sounds in a .prs format.
*Folder "Samples" which contains engine .wav files.
In addition there are several other files including "preload" and numerous alpha-numeric files.



All the maps I have installed came from AAA. Most were .exe files and installed without a hitch. I have a few beta maps and installed them per the mapmakers instructions. All work fine.
I have also installed mods such as LAL_RONE's hanger mod and I believe my file/folder structure is intact as per the AAA standard as these mods installed manually as per makers instructions and work just fine.

On another note, I just found out this is also happening with the Kursk map. Cry

Final bit of hopefully useful information; on the FMB screen when the map fails to load I get this in the lower frame:

World land () LoadMap () error: java RunTime Exception: Landscape 'Net3Summer/load.ini' loading error.

After this happens the FMB screen is blank and the cursor, which freezes during loading, ( a typical 4.09mB1 bug), moves freely. At that time I can load something else.

I hope some of this has be helpful information in diagnosing the problem. I would hate to have to reinstall the game/mod unless it was the only way out.

Have you tried reinstalling vpmedias map pack?

Hehe, I misunderstood your problem...
Either what Forager suggests or if you want to have the old maps with their old textures just rename the folders, for example
rename Net3Summer/ folder to XNet3Summer/ (this way the game will ignore it)
Later you can come back and see what's the problem with it (seems the load.ini has something in it which the game doesn't like)

Thanks for the idea to "rename" the folder. Now I can get the map to show.
But riddle me this....Although the ground textures are stock the airfields have mod textures, (dirt/dark grey concrete), and some of the buildings are LAL_RONE textured. I was expecting stock textures all around. Not complaining though.


OK, so if I re-install vp media's maps I would use the 2.4 version (2.3 previously installed), can I just reinstall the new version over the old or should I delete anything, and if so what? To my eyes I cannot see a specific vp media folder.

Some of the mods don't come with new objects, but rather reskin the older ones. So it looks like you have such a mod which just reskinns the original airfield plates.
It's good if you try localizing these mods, familiarize with the folders, check what happens if you rename them etc.

About the buildings it should be similar (although I think all RONE objects came as "new" objects but I'm not sure), so a default map actors.static wouldn't use them. Here it's good again to try hunt these mods, to be able to disable them at will and so on, it's good to know what you have in the household :wink:


EDIT: Boris, it's good also to extract all sfs files somewhere on your PC and then just look at file/ folder structure of the standard objects/maps/effects etc. The mod folders and files have a similar structure so you understand why mods are organized like they are...

Boris, OK to install new over old.

I just right click the zip and extract to an empty folder then copy and paste the maps into the game mapmods\maps folder.

You could also just drag the maps you are having issues with into the mapmods\maps folder.

Vpmedia's map pack adds those textures to your maps, they are in the mapmods\3do folder.

Forager, I think I will re-install the whole pack. Apparently vp media has made several changes and I wouldn't want ot miss any. IMO his re-textures is one of the best mods. I brings every map to life. The few times I play with the vanilla version it seems so.....old school. Smile

I imagine I will need the .sfs extractor tool to do that. I have most of the tools as I thought about doing some map making but it seems a daunting task and very time consuming. With all that I do at M4T and for my squad I'm not sure I have the time to make maps. I am truly awe struck and what can be accomplished though. Maybe if I win the lottery so I can quit working for a living..... Big Grin

OK, now I'm going nukin' futz! :twisted:
I re-installed vp media's 2.4 version and STILL can't get Net3Summer, Net7Summer and Kursk to load. All other maps he re-textured seem to load fine. In fact now the Kursk map now gives me a blank black screen whereas the Net summer maps just give me a blank light blue screen. I get the same message as before in the lower frame bar. :evil: :evil: :evil:

ARRRGH!

I just went through my Net7Summer load.ini and it is identical to yours Forager. :?

BB, check if you have the files LAL_Clouds256.tga and LAL_CloudsNoise.tga
in il2root/mods/mapmods/maps/_Tex/
If you don't then this might be the problem, but I doubt you don't have it. Otherwise I'm at a loss...

Yes, I have them along with vp medias clouds; Clouds256, Clouds256_med and Clouds256_orig.

Now that I think about it the ReadMe said I could choose the cloud type. Could this be causing a conflict?
If so. should I remove/save to another folder outside the game one set or the other?

But then again, there is no problem with the other maps except those previously mentioned.

I have no idea then...

Below there's the original load.ini for net3summer. Back up vpmedia's load.ini let's say rename it to vpmedia_load.ini. Copy the text below and use it as your new load.ini. Check if game loads now the map. If yes open both load.ini and vpmedia_load.ini (the backup) and replace step by step portions from load.ini with portions from vpload.ini, at each step go to game and see if the map loads...
