Ships2 -STD or All ini path install?
#1

In the Ships 2 pack download there are a number of "files " in a separate folder to be dropped either in STD or in all ini file somewhere.I admit to be a bit thick headed - can you give me a short install path as to where these go? How will I recognize that these as well as other new ship add-ons are actually working?

It sorts out a lot of problems.

You probably have a MODS/STD folder
You should find the ini files in there.
--- but check in root/files if you have one.

ShipPack2 installs the following ini's

chief.ini
ships.ini
stationary.ini
technics.ini
technics.properties

the last one is wrong for most installations and should be renamed technics_ru.properties

If you already have any of these in your IL-2 installartion then do not install the STD folder from ShipPack2.

Instead look in the Addtoini folder. The text in each of these files needs to be added to the bottom of your existing corresponding ini files.

All this is explained in the ShipPack2 post and in the download but it may be difficult to follow if your not used to the file structure.

Ashes- I don't have an Add_ini folder!!!! Mt STD FolderOnly has a com & 118 folder....
I do have a Stactic folder in Mods separately tho...???

add ini means: "add to ini" as in "add this content to the according ini file". it is not a folder name.

The Addtoini folder is in the ShipPack2.rar file which you downloaded.
It contains separate txt files which contain the text you would need to paste into existing ini files if you have them.

The "normal" place for the ini's in your installation is in root/MODS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects
and the *.properties files are in root/MODS/STD/i18n

--- but it is not at all unusual for files to have been installed elsewhere with some mods.

Some older mods install files to root/files. Check there if you have a files folder.

You should check for duplicates. You must only have one of each.

I don't have a "Static" folder in my set up.
Check it for duplicate files. If there are no duplicates then there will be no problem.

Keep copies of any files you are changing until you know that the new setup works.

.... AAA UI comes with static_AC folder and it contains technics.ini and stationary.ini among other stuff

so you need to alter FC's installation to respect that ... or other way around

maybe this would clear things a little

Fly_zo -- Some time ago I think it was you who proposed that all object mods should use root/MODS/STD etc as the location for standard files like ini's and *.properties files.

I think this was a good idea since it avoids files common to many Mods being lost in obscure folders.

In my opinion FC has got the location correct for the ini files and Static_AC mod should be changed.

Yes have the Static_AC folder from the AAA download( with stationary & technics files in it)....Do I check this out to see about matching lines from Ships2 ini files or is this where I add the lines found in Ships 2? Which one ?
I do ( obvioulsy have a STD folder & in it I have Air & stactic ini files. Thts it.
Finally ( not making this up) I have a Static Folder in th Mods that has a list( (B9A89D62FASD19A,etc.)& a static file...have no idea where this came from , but I imagine I should be checking it against stuff in STD folder huh?

yes that is true , we did have such agreement and FC did it right IMHO .... but then AAA UI came along like it did and we all have to live with it . I have files structured that way ( all XXXX.ini in STD folder) too.

I found my ".ini" files in

MODS/DAMAGEMOD2/com/maddox/il2/objects

Probably due to the mods I installed way back. Did a windows search to make sure they were the only files with those names. Once I knew there were no other versions of those files installed I just cut and pasted those found ini files into the empty STD folder created by another mod. All works fine.

MODS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects

If you have 2 or more of those ini files (same name) then there is a conflict and you use winmerge to combine them into one good file.

Make sure you save copies of the original ini files somewhere before adding lines to them just in case.

To see if the ships are installed just go to full mission builder in game. In view objects window open the drop down menu with artillery, vehicles, ships etc. and you should see a new one called ship pack. When that is selected you should see the ships for ship pack 1 & 2.

'SwiftCompare' is even easier to use than Winmerge

I really hope one of you guys is still watching this post , because I still haven't gotten a definative answer-where do I put ( or compare...whatever) the 5 Add to files (Chief.Ships,Stationary,Technics & Technics properties?) All in one place ? I have Technics in the Static>AC folder but the otheres defy me.That's why I started this post to begin with.
Now I have the added info in the static _AC folder- thts good to know...but no one has addressed this other "new" folder Static I have that has:about 8 coded entries:2B9A89D62FA5D19A - F39D345E782E3EB4 and a static file with aircraft described...where did this come form ,,,better where does it go?
Finally I now have installedd all the other new ships ( PT boats to destroyers. They all have folders in Mods...do I have to do antthing additional to make these functional?
I'd like to do this as simply as possible.
