Thailand campaign.
#1

I have just about finished my campaign for the Franco/Thai war of 1941 but I don't see anywhere at AAA that it can be uploaded. For missions yes, but not campaigns. I normally upload my stuff to M4T but for some reason the site doesn't recognise me, I even tried registering again as a new member, it recognises that but won't let me post or upload. Is there a way to upload campaigns here?

All the best, Pete.

Hi!

I can ask one of the admins if they can help you?
It would be great if your campaign was on M4T too!

Cheers,

Hi all, patience kirby won't be long I'll find a way to make it available. Fabianfred thanks for the offer, how about I upload it to you so you can give it a test before I inflict my work on the rest of the community, it is your map after all that started my project so would like your oppinion on it, be glad of any comments from you on whether changes are needed, not sure how I'd link to here but could deal with that later. Joppe I have inundated Max at M4T with emails to try and sort out my difficulties but as yet there seems no resolving it.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Glad to know you've managed to install the campaign and play the first mission Fabianfred, hopefully you won't find anything seriously wrong with it. I've tested it myself fairly regularily as I was building it, but it is nice to have feedback from other players. Did you use the files for the skinmod I made to skin the static aircraft and if so did they show up ok.

I have added the link to your site into the thread I started to show progress with the build, thank you very much for allowing me to upload the campaign there.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Big Grin

Well,

I flew two missions this afternoon.
There is definitely a very interesting array of aircraft.
Some that I have never touched before.
The skins look pretty good considering they don't have to look too weathered.
The static skins were on display too.
Your campaign is the first campaign for me to use vp media's skin mod.
It's a pity about the Thai language pack that would definitely add to the campaign.
Will be flying more missions on Monday night.
Enjoying this campaign greatly!

With the Thai map I don't use icons with the aircraft as this is very realistic, you can get pretty disorientated just seeing green, green, rice paddies, and green and rice paddies.

I put a link to this campaign at the Thaiflight sim web site ...they seem very interested.....although I don't think many of them are using the mods yet or have seen my map.... and some did not know we had the MS in the game....

I use map icons off and mini-map path on....... and I find it easy to navigate because every small hill is reproduced perfectly on the 2D map

The Thai nationality is set to use English by default... so I didn't install the speech pack

the elephants on the wings and elsewhere were only facing to the left, and not reversed

Hello again Kirby, glad you managed to install the necessary mods to play this campaign, two of you now seem to have it up and running with no problems! That's a relief. This is not the first campaign I've made but providing the images for the skinmod and making an intro and epilogue video was uncharted territory, did the intro play ok? I ask because I had a poroblem with it at one stage, basically the lead aircraft was wearing the Finnish default skin, very strange, even though it was shot in Thai markings and played as such until I added it to my other modded version of il-2. I cured that by making sure there were no Finnish defaults in the skinmod, I would have thought that the video would have portrayed what I originally shot! You're always learning new things with this sim. Fabianfred, how is it possible that the Thai sim community wasn't aware of your superb map? Have they been off planet for months? Had heads burried in the sand? With regard to the speech folder, you say it is set for English as the Thai default yet when I loaded the first mission I got Russian, but all Thai aircraft in the campaign were set as Thai. Could it be there is something not quite set up right with my version of il-2? These were the reasons I didn't try to have an automatic installer, firstly I wouldn't have a clue how to set that up, but more importantly it gives the individual the chance to set up the campaign as they see fit. As for the aircraft insignia I have followed what information is generaly available, which isn't much, but the other skinners have set their markings as I have so not sure on this one Fabianfred. With a bit of luck someone may publish a book dedicated to this period of Thai aviation, preferably with english captions and good images of the aircraft showing both marking positions and codes, until then I will have to live with my skins as they are. Seeing as you are both Thai residents maybe you could point me in the direction of such literature if it is or becomes available.

This is a copy of the Axis decal sheet for Thai aircraft which was one of several references used.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback so far, is there anything you dislike about it from what you've played so far? Are the missions set up right? Do you think it could do with more objects etc. to aid immersion or are you quite happy with it as is, bearing in mind that not everyone will have a machine able to deal with the amount of information already in this large map.

Again wishing you both the very best.

Regards, Pete.

Well,
I am on to mission number three now.
I checked the movie intro and that works fine.
I think the objects are ok cinsidering Fred's map is a big map to load up with every mission.
More objects you may as well have another cup of coffee while waiting for the mission to load he he.
I still like the interesting array of aircraft.
Just a thought you could make a French campaign using the same missions.
ENJOYING IT GREATLY Tongue

Will hopefully finish campaign on the week end.

Hello again Kirby, glad your enjoying it so far. I have actually altered the campaign to fly for the Vichy side but have as yet not done the briefings. There is also a problem with the aircraft to fly, most of the missions would use the Morane 406 but as you will see as you progress through the campaign this aircraft does not feature in every mission. This would mean having to alter a few of them or you would have to fly the Bf 110 I use as a Potez heavy fighter, don't suppose that would be a problem, what do you think? But at the moment I am actually flying this campaign from the Thai side just to have a last check for anything I think needs changing. I will probably leave this project to one side then and spend some time playing someone elses campaign.

This is the background screen for that Vichy campaign

Wishing you the very best, Pete.
