Wait... Aren't you a modder yourself? I was under that impression...
I'm all for carrier and naval planes in general, and some easy, fast mods would be nice from time to time, while waiting for the epic projects
I don't know if you've done your research much on this... but this would have never gone into production no matter how hard anyone tried. They did carrier testing for the mustang, and the test pilot (Robert Elder) loved it, but the problem with that plane was that there was less than 10 mph room for error. You go too slow (82 mph), and you stall out, you go to fast and you'll snap the wire (90 mph). It wasn't a feasible aircraft to go into production because not every pilot would be able to land it, and even in the best of hands and bad weather it would have eaten something. The hellcat could easily out-perform the mustang in carrier operations, and this being 1946 means that the 1945 bearcat, which went into production and could fly circles around the mustang would be readily available.
all of this is not to say I wouldn't want to see the navy modified P-51 in this game.
P-51D-5NA (S/N 414017) was tested just outside the Virginia coast aboard the USS Shangri-La
I'd love to fly anything with a hook on it! But....the Navy would never have accepted this plane for carrier operations. The inline engine is just too delicate for that environment. The Seafire was not a great success, not only because of it's narrow gear, but also because of it's engine. Think of every famous (successful) carrier based plane in history - with recip. engines - and you will see that they all share the same thing in common, the round motor. The Zeke, Kate, Val, F4F, F6F, TBF, F4U, SBD, SB2C, F8F, AD, Swordfish and last but by no means least, the Hawker Sea Fury. The others, such as the Seafire, Fulmer ?, Fairy Blackburn and Judy had moderste success, but just didn't quite perform as well as their round motored brothers.
But like I said, if its got a hook on it, I'd love to fly it. Personally, I think that the P-47 would have made a kick-ass carrier fighter!! Albeit, with a little better flap/slats system for improved slow flight characteristics.
I'm a 3D Modder (so to speak) not the ones that right codes. I would be glad to start working by cutting a hole in the p-51 airframe to put the arresting hook. And u got to remeber if they were prepaired to add the p-51 to the list of carrier aircraft I'm sure they would modifly it a bit more then just smaking on a hook. And about the wild cat fish SHHH! I was planning on just posting my finished floats (From 3D max). And as for the F7F u have to remeber there were a lot of P51 being already made. Some modifcations and u have a new carrier plane while it would probably take a lot long to produce the F7F. (BTW can some 1 plz help me in trying to figure out how to use the class files).
Why is there no Bearcat on this game? It holds the fastest climb rate for piston aircraft right?
That would be cool. I agree with Pukin with the Bearcat. Also the Tigercat shold be in here.

i'd rather have an actual sea hurricane
Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.
I already started cutting the holes for the p-51. And I made the hook for the catapult (For the look) Now we basically just need some 1 to make the new slot / FM. Let's make this a quicky mod. That way the wait for the epic ones
well, that would be a very neat mod.
There was a reason why P-51s were never officially put on carriers...
