Tougher Bridges (MKIII)

Bridges that are more difficult to destroy

(edit)...updated third version (12th January)

Download this folder:-

Unzip and place in your MODS folder

http://files.filefront.com/Tougher+Bridg...einfo.html

Please test...

In stock il2 any direct hit will take down a bridge, and a near miss by almost anything other than a 50kg- bomb will also destroy any type with blast damage.

In my tests with this.:-

Bridge 'spans' suffer from two types of damage & it is cumulative, most damage if hit directly, but also blast damage.

WIth this mod you need one pretty large bomb to destroy a section of a steel or stone bridge (500kilo/1000lb +).

Multiple smaller bombs will also take down a bridge but you need a few and some direct hits- and you need to hit the same sections.
(eg one allied 500lb or axis 250 kilo bomb will in all likely hood, not destroy a steel bridge, but a pattern of them can do.)

larger bombs are more effective but the first near miss is now much less likely to take out spans with blast damage.

with the right bombload so that a few bombs are required, STEEL bridge busting can be pretty challenging !

Wooden Bridges are tougher but relatively still pretty weak.

This mod should effect all bridges on all maps (it universally modifies their resilience in the java code.).

Good Dorvanski :-)

You must have tried the first version. It was very subtle...MKII is nearer the mark (I hope).

If anything it may now make steel bridges too tough ?

Thanks for comment Smile

...more feedback needed really...

Maybe you can look into the DM of ships as well. Right now, the 75mm cannon on some of the B25's do not have any effect on even a small fishing vessel. That should be fixed!

I also think that this will make problems in online missions.

the B25 cannon, on the contrary sinks a fishing vessel in two hits and can even sink a destroyer through repeated hits. It can also knock out gun turrets on almost any ship

It also seems to be unknown, but 50 cals can knock out machine gun turrets on most ships through repeated strafing

Thanks for the mod - it's much better - at least it takes more than a couple of 30mm cannon shells to bring a bridge down now!

Possibly ...needs testing.
I can say though that when a group of people play online together and they all have this, its fine, I have tested it. Not sure what would happen if some did and some didn't. Hopefully someone will try it ?

That's not the be all and end all anyway, the mass majority of people don't play online and many groups/squads that play online choose to adopt the same mods anyhow in the co-op scene.
A bridge busting mission on a DF server is not really even a possibility at the moment is it because its not even a mission target option. (possibly because of the weakness of stock bridges and what a pitiful mission it always was..)

Quote:i d rather have cloned bridges, but stronger...
Even if you did this then you would have to add your new 'cloned bridges' to every map with a map editor, aligned correctly with the roads etc etc , there are thousands of bridges .....then everyone would have to have the cloned bridges..and the edited map..or wouldn't there be a

This was truly a long awaited mod, thank you so much for sharing this ! Big Grin

Now just a thought: i've been testing it, and even with direct hits of SC500 i have no damage to the bridge. I know a bridge has only two states, intact or destroyed, but a direct hit of SC500 should at least damage it badly. If only SC1000 and greater can do damage, it means allied will be unable to destroy bridges, and Axis only Stuka, Ju88 will be able.

Are you able to make a road/train bridge destroyable by 400kg or more ? This way even allied will be able to take out a bridge, plus heavy loaded jabos.

...it would be even better if the bridge could be assigned 2 damage models, eg: half-damaged(still usable) and destroyed....is that possible?

It's a great addition for IL2 !!!! GREAT GREAT GREAT !!!

Is it more easy to destroy wooden bridge then iron bridge, or these two bridge type have same shell ?

I have been thinking along the same lines also rollnloop.

This 'overcooks' it a little but I wanted it to be quite extreme to prove that it worked.

500Kilo's should take down a steel bridge as you say, and then the allied 1000lb would also.

LAL_Rhone, yes different damage resistance for wood and other bridge types.

I will do an updated version but it will be tomorrow.

2 damage model levels would be great big bigbossmalone...but originally this was just an 'afterthought' related to something else that I was doing... I think that it would be possible but its major to do that.this is maybe a first stage .

Thanks !

Bridge are civilian constructions. I think that a 250 kg bomb should destroy all bridge types in a direct hit.
The most important is to prevent blast damage for light and medium bomb (50, 100, 250 kg, 500 kg)
