MapMod request : improved Map_T files

Hi

As many of you must have noticed by now if you've been trying to modify the default maps' load.ini files, some maps suffer from a very poorly mixed textures layout, causing some pretty nasty repetitions, or 'checkerboard effects' when viewed from high altitude. It is something which kind of kills the immersion IMO, and also prevents a lot of textures from being used on these maps.
Other maps such as Kuban use the same textures in the mountain and plains area witch makes it hard to make a clear distinction between those two diametrically opposed types of landscapes.

The way to fix this is to create a new Map_T file for these maps with a repeating pattern. Modifying such Map_T files is way beyond my abilities so I am wondering if any of you gifted texture editors was willing to look into it. I think this would be a huge improvement on some maps.
For comparison, check out default Normandy's textures layout and GilB57's new Map_T used in his Winter Normandy maps. No comparison Wink

Maps that badly need a makeover IMO include Kuban, NWEurope, Moscow, Stalingrad (S & W) and Kurland (probably a few more)

New Map_T files for these maps - if you choose to make them - would be a greatly appreciated enhancement.

.... to teach you how to catch a fish , instead of giving you just one ....


way 1:

1 obtain desired map files ( sfs extractor)
2 get Photoshop or Gimp
3 get color swatches for textures ( map tools section)
4 open desired map file in editor ( PS or Gimp...)
5 hand paint or make desired pattern for texture slots
* no blurring allowed , use pencil tool
6 save as 8bit grayscale tga ( no text. compression)

way2 :

1 get unlocked FMB, part of basic map tools pack ( map tools forum section)
2 read readme
3 read it again
4 load desired map in unlockedFMB
5 get into 3d mode
6 select tiles and apply desired texture directly on desired map area (just like placing an object)
7 save it
8 copy new map files from "saving" folder to "loading" .... for more : tool's readme file

* unlockedFMB is not FMB+ !

Here's a great example of default, vs. 3rd party map_T (note difference in levels of detail between the two, not to mention the larger number of grey-scale texture variation in 3rd party version which is not discernible to the naked eye)...be advised, this is a big job, when done correctly.

Yikes, five minutes in and I'm already stuck... I did everything exactly as the readme told me to, several times over, but get a CTD at 70% loading.

Can't think of anything I've done wrong...
