5 Planes in a Flight ?
#1

Don't know how this happened, but it looks like in this mission, several flights of bombers suddenly were flying 5 to a flight. Anyone know how this happens and if it can be dupliacted?

They are indeed Ki-21's, but that's beside the point. And how it happened i don't know. I've flown this mission a few times already and I really didn't notice anything odd about there being 5 bombers per flight. So I am sure this is the first time it happened, otherwise I would have noticed very quickly.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the new AI mod, the .15 version, which is the latest version and mod I've installed. It's been giving some odd behavior for bombers. For instance, in a prior mission I had a Ju-52 doing barrel roll after barrel roll as evasive maneuver. Technical no-nothing that I am, I suspect that a transport aircraft like the Ju-52 couldn't really pull that off in real flight. Also I'm getting very infrequent hits from the defensive gunners in bombers.

Maybe it has to do with each other? Or maybe it's something else. Personally I think that more than 4 planes in a flight for bombers especially, isn't such a bad development. But how to replicate? I am in the proverbial dark. Anyone with any ideas?

dunno but i'd love to have more aircrat per flight. Could do some really exciting formations etc.

Annoying the annoying, so you don't have to.

could it be that those pics are of 5 flights of 3 aircraft, placed in that formation in the FMB?

Also if you had the Icons set to show the aircraft numbers that would indicate weather or not this was the case.

Now that might make sense. I think I tweaked the mission in Mission Tuner at some point.

But since I abhor flying with the full icon setting, I didn't think of checking that. I'll check tomorrow though - it's late here now.

gaveret has hit the nail on the head. the quik mission tuner has that effect. The first plane is the lead of flight one, the second the lead of flight two.

In the qmt you can set the spacing to mess with this setup. It is possible to create large bomber groups that appear to fly in columns.

The number of planes per flight determines the number of columns, and the number of flights determines how many planes in each column.

Dont put them too close together or theyll take each other out quite easily

It is Mission Tuner all right. Tried setting up a large plane flight to look like thew above shots and replicated it easily. I was thrown off by the planes in different flights flying closer to each other than the planes in each flight itself.

An interesting way to 'cheat' on making large formations of aircraft.

Thanks for picking up on the solution ...

You do need to be careful though. For example, that huge formation of Junkers, if you get them to do a 60degree heading change you will lose half the formation to collisions. I used to do that but unless the formation is gonna fly in a straight line for the entire mission it can get real messy real quickly
