Hmm...
Some of you may want to punch me in the head for this, but I've been wondering how someone might mod the vehicles to be player-controllable. It's certainly possible. Everything is there, isn't it? 3-D model, DM, err... ground version of FM. The weapons are already taken care of as well. All some very smart modders would need to do is figure out a cockpit-type thing, and code the controls, and put in some separate gunner stations (pilot, main gunner, co-axial turret), and finally make new slots.
Of course, unlocking all the vehicles would take at least a year... so we could start small, and do a little bit at a time.
Well, maybe this is a bad time to suggest, since we have OOF + countless other projects being worked on. Just a thought in case anyone had a lot of free time.

Thanks, Chaoic!
Great minds think alike, no? I'm just hoping we can at least start crawling with this project before we begin to walk, and later run with it. Most people (including myself) would, and should, be extremely happy with even a Jeep unlocked - For touring the countryside and the occasional race, of course!
You know what, though? A modder wouldn't even need to make a cockpit for the vehicles. Just play it no-cockpit style, yeah?
We shall see if our hopes & dreams come to fruition sometime in the future, then.

Good idea, id love being able to drive out in an aa truck and try to down incoming planes.
IMHO, I think a better use for this might be making ground vehicles that actually have physics rather than simply being a single mesh. maybe have one be right/left wheels/chassis (wings) the driver (pilot) gun (gun, which is jammable) and hull (feuslage), and maybe have the rear area of a truck be one.
this could potentially allow us a number of things
I personally would like it even if its just AI so long as we can strafe a truck and watch it tip over as we destroy one side of the chassis
or see vehicles make gradual turns without so much effort from us mission makers.
or be able to strafe a truck and watch it catch fire while still running, and then maybe as the driver is dead go run into a house on the side of the road
or see a truck get riddled and still move
see vehicles under attack hit the gas and go a bit faster then they do now when under fire
or begin straffing and see one take evasive action, swerving around on the road.
AI might be hard, but I think we would only need one for most and as far as FM we probably will only need one for most non gun equipped trucks,
as long as they remain low poly we could probably have a considerable amount without too much lag
I suddenly got very enthusiastic about this
cockpit? no modder would make a Cockpit?!? Damn if you get this to work I will HIRE and PAY someone to make the Cockpit (well not a cockpit technically)!
it would come with the drivable vehicles to an extent, what would be needed is an AI set up for vehicles.
I'm just saying, the possibilities are amazing even without a cockpit
I'm not really looking for a drivers seat in a truck...BUT I always thought that it would be interesting if someone could "guide" or "command" ground vehicles & ships in "real-time" as a mission is in progress. This would be a great feature for online events that involve attacking ground targets. A "strategic gaming interface" would be the most practical means of commanding the "targets"...
Imagine this scenario: as you and your buddy's attack a tank column & support vehicles the "real person" behind the ground vehicles breaks the tank column into two groups that flank the town/airstrip. He then disperses the support vehicles into smaller groups that are harder to attack. Flexible real time reactions from ground targets...
This would be interesting. Il2 would be a "full spectum" simulator then. And think of the multiplayer battles with it... like p47 vs wirbelwinds, USS Fletcher vs J6Ns or even German tank batallion against advancing russians. IMO Il2 has a lot of potential in it.
small aa gun and large flak gun positions would be ace to man on land and even at sea. just think of the possibilities, even online Real people shooting at you from the ground.
all good
this is unreal thinking ... guys you dont know possibilties of IL2 engine, java coding how much work is needed for this unreal mods. Its only empty thread ...
On SoW engine Oleg count in future use for multi-battlefield with drive tanks, cars etc ...
