Stuka evasive tactics...

I always get shot down by enemy fighters when im flying the Ju87 D3 Stuka
any hints sor tips on Stuka evasive maneuvers?

Yes- Smile

One evasive manoeuvre I perform before the craft gets too flaming is I hit the E key. Usually, many many times :lol:

That and side slip using the rudder-- but only so long as it doesn't throw off my aim :wink:

I have not found that. And I've tried because I like the dive sounds of the Stuka. Ultimately having a mission where you have tons of air cover is the best bet in my estimation.

As like any divebomber, once in a dive you kinda have it hanging out there. SBDs, Avengers the same deal.

Aside from aircover, if I abandon my diving attack and go after a Hurricane (or what ever,) I might get lucky in a head on attack when the bugger comes back at me. Not like you can trail anyone's six in a crate like a Stuka :?

Yeah Tater I fly pretty much all off line too.

I happened to be flying an IL-2 last night and noted how 'chatty' the tail gunner was.

But not to get too far off the original topic.

Ultimate recommendation IMHO on evasive tactics would be to use the rudder to side slip so as to evade enemy bullets, and throttle cuts (and even dive breaks) to get the enemy to over shoot. Then go after the bugger if you have the energy!

When all else fails, remember that the Luftwaffe withdrew the Stukas after a time from their vulnerability. In environments of solid air superiority it works; but any other situation where the airforces are at parity then generally expect to have your hind end handed to you :oops: That was the general bent of history I have read about and IL-2 reflects that over all.

Just my two bits. Hope I've been interesting if nothing else.

Everybody got shot down in Stuka's in real life. Their solution was to have lots of fighter cover. Hope that helps :roll:

the key to surviving in a Ju-87 is:

1) be constantly aware of your surroundings

2) if possible, don't fly alone

3) the stuka turns very well - use flaps and airbrakes to increase those capabilities, you'll be able to turn at 160 kmh without stalling.

4) the D5 has 2x 20mm guns - use them, i downed more than one russian fighter with them.


P.S.

the key to downing a stuka is aiming for the wing roots - a short burst will set the fuel tanks on fire. disengage and watch its death.

P.P.S.

if you know where to aim, even the G version can shoot down planes (Rudel shot down an il-2 with one salvo flying the G)

Get slow and turn into a small, small horizontal circle. The Stuka can out-turn almost any plane.

I managed to win against 3 fighters in a Ju-87 B-2...
1x La-5 (Mano-a-mano) with PK (Gunner),
2x Yak in Teamwork, perforated by my mini calibers

After I was full of adrenalin...

If it's a case of pure survival, my advice: get down to the deck and side-slip like hell :lol:

As others have pointed out, a combination of rudder and dive-break will give you a very tight turn, and pursuing fighters will over-shoot you. These manouvers enabled me to evade pursuing Spitfires and make it back to France (In a B-2), although I did have a lot of holes and a wounded rear gunner.

Yes, setting your plane to "Ace" will improve your rear gunner.

In real life defensive circles were often employed.
Me, I do what Rudel often did: Dive for the deck.

The aircraft also handles well at low speed, so the occasional Scissors might work.

But most people are saying that I should slow down and do a horizontal circle, wouldnt that make me even more succeptable to hits :?:
