Hey guys, I'm looking for Lightning skins of the 339th Fighter Squadron. They and the 12th Fighter Squadron shot down Isoroku Yamamoto on Arpil 18th, 1943. I'm looking mainly for John Mitchell's and Rex Barber's P-38 mainly. However if you find any skins for that squadron please let me know.

339th? P-38s?

I'm going to watch this thread. As soon as I speak, someone will prove me wrong but the 339th was only in business for 1 year give or take and late in the war. I think they flew ONLY P-51's? Are you sure you're not mixing them up with another squad?

Pretty sure the 339th was P-38s.

338th was P-51s though? Although they did operate P-38s earlier...

Although the 339th Fighter Squadron officially flew the mission, ten of the eighteen pilots were drawn from the other two squadrons of the 347th Group. A thorough, detailed briefing included a cover story for the source of the intelligence stating that a coastwatcher had spotted an important high officer boarding an aircraft at Rabaul, but the pilots were not specifically briefed that their target was Admiral Yamamoto.

I'm sure there are quite a few "artist's impressions" of the event, so you should have a good idea which skins were used, but the whole group... that'll require some research.

Okay, let's get this straight. The 339th Fighter Group flew Mustangs in the ETO. I'm talking about the 339th Fighter Squadron. Not the group.

I know this thread's a couple months old, but I have a P-38 skinpack from Il-2 Skins -- I don't remember who by and there's no readme in the zip -- with five of the P-38s from the Yamamoto mission (Barber's and Lamphier's planes are in it for sure). And there's a 339th FS Henderson Field P-38 skin by Imme available on Flying Legends.
