If you haven't already, read Antony Beevor's book "Crete", one of the best WWII books out there. It would provide an excellent source for some very intresting historical missions.

A 1:1 Crete map would be just the ticket! Hopefully you can make it large enough to get some Luftwaffe bases on; or failing that move Greece and the Greek Islands a bit nearer. :wink:

That's the idea M8 - it will all be there, and pleasantly flyable. All land masses at 1:1 with a bit of trickery to move things a little closer together. -viking :wink:

Let me just say I've got a ton of respect for anyone who has done a historically accurate map. Making sure relevant points of interest, airfields, towns, etc look as they did at the time is a huge amount of work. I still have a lot of work to do, but I think I've pretty much got the textures worked out - I've placed roads and sited major locations of interest, although they have not been populated yet. Here are some screenies highlighting some of the new textures.

But remember that in Crete there were only a few Hurricanes and Gladiators (17 i think), and historically they were retired before operation began. So the luftwaffe had absolute control over the skies.

The royal navy fleet had the presence of a carrier but it was heavily damaged by the luftwaffe, who made a heavy punishment to many warships during this operation, sinking many of them.

Indeed so. Looks like they were taken from Google Maps, always a good source for textures. This is going to be a promising map.

Lots of scope for paradrops by Ju-52's while playing the 'Ride of the Valkyries' in the background ... that was btw the original linking of the music with aviation, as done in German Wochenschau newsreels, long before 'Apocalypse Now' ...

Anyway, looking very good.
